So what can we tell from the latest Honami leak?

by XB on 12th August 2013

in Rumours, Xperia Z1

HonamiIn amongst the very exciting news about Sony’s new lens-cameras was a press picture showing the upcoming flagship, Honami. Andrea from SonyAlphaRumors very kindly sent over a larger resolution of the image so that we can get a closer look. So what can we tell about Honami that we haven’t been able to confirm before?

Well the image ties in exactly with most other Honami rumours we have seen up until now. First of all you can see the camera lens on the top left of the handset, with the LED flash underneath. There is ‘G Lens’ branding like we have seen in previous leaks. The image also confirms the glass back, much like the Xperia Z.

Moving onto the aluminium frame, it appears that the edges are coloured silver rather than anodised black. However, we’re not sure whether the whole frame is silver. We can’t tell for sure, but it seems like the flat sides of the frame are black and just the edges are silver – this may just be a trick of the light though.

In terms of buttons, there is a dedicated camera button and volume rocker next to the lens-camera attachment. To the right side we can make out a flap for either the SIM card or micro SD. The top of the handset has an open 3.5mm headphone jack, we imagine this is waterproofed in the same way that the Xperia Z Ultra is.

Honami is shaping up to be a very desirable handset and we can’t wait to see the finished article. Sony Mobile will formally announce Honami on 4 September 2013 at IFA in Berlin.

Thanks for the picture Andrea!

where is the power button? They are suppose to be centered on the right side with the volume rocker above, but here the volume rocker is where the power button should be…

  • XperiaBlog

It sits in between the volume rocker and flap. The camera attachment is hiding it in this picture.

now just the same thickness on bezels as the xperia z and the same form factor not longer

    hopefully black frame

and i’ll be all over this one

i am however tiny bit dissapointed that the xperia text is so clear i only wanted SONY at the back to be visible

  • John-Mark Christmas

I think it’s there, just after the volume rocker hidden by the detachable camera.

  • MarkLastiwka

oh i see. It’s some where in between the rocker and attachment. A little deceptive from this angle lol

  • surethom

    1. The back is way to shiny, finger print magnet is Never a good idea on a phone.
    2. The camera as close to the corner as possible is bad design, it needs to be at least 2 cm from both edges.

  • XperiaFan

this picture also confirms that the Honami hasn’t the flash xenon :/ but i would see her pictures

  • surethom

It is such a shame and a missed opportunity for a true Cybershot Camera phone. A true camera phone Always has a Xenon flash.

  • Shimoda

I don’t know why there are random people in this world that think they are as good as sony designers…

  • Me

    We still have c905..

  • surethom

Because sometimes companies have too many (Yes thats fantastic) employees & make bad design decision that they usually fix with a new product down the line.

  • Carlo

I guess they (SONY) wouldn’t release a phone that has a bad design. (they’re not stupid)…
Why don’t you design a phone then? show it to us if you’re good.

  • Carlo

All I can say about this is, FUNtastic! The external camera is a good, wait, Excellent idea. I am sure this is a waterproof phone (Why would SONY release a new Flagship that isn’t waterproof?). i would love to see my friends’ eyes bulging when they see a phone submerged into water without covering the headphone jack… I JUST Hope, that fruit company wouldn’t announce that they did the idea of an “External Camera for phones” first (I mean, that’s what they always do, like: (Hey, for the first time in smartphone’s history, we introduce to you the “Notification bar”… YEHEY!)..

  • Where have you been in the past 2-3 years?

  • PowerSonic

Now we can say that a mobilephone can have upto 3 cameras….

  • B( . )( . )BS

    Too thick, Big bezels.

  • Feanor

It’s water resistant. If it gets to smudgy with fingerprints, take it to the nearest tap.

  • Naime Shirou

    d(>_<)b Yeah

  • Quark Gluon

“External camera for phones” was one of the reasons why Sony was interested in working together with Ericsson. Remember Sony Ericsson T28i (formerly Ericsson T28)?

  • B( . )( . )BS

It doesn’t make any sense at all! Sony made Honami so fucking thick + big bezels but without built-in Xenon flash and they also want us to pay more for external lens camera? yeah that’s really good! huh?

  • PsFreedom

I think some complaining about “Bezel” are too much.
lt’s good to have thin bezel. But it’s not the worst thing to the world. = =’

The bezel can’t make your phone exploded or crash. Sometime it easy to hold.

    There is no perfect phone.
Lumia 1020 good at camera but lack of spec, OS.
SS Galaxy S4 suck in everything :)

Powerful Spec > Big size > no Bezel > Thick
Powerful Spec > Bigs ize > Bezel > Slim

Sony must balance between Bezel and Thickness. (and balance for people are difference)
But, sometime it’s a “Hardware design problem”.
You can’t push everything in such a small place.

I think Sony are try their best but it not easy as “ask for the perfect phone in the world”.

    Don’t mention me about ZL.
It’s different spec, body, camera, speaker etc. then it can’t use the same form factor. Okay ?

  • Billy de Fretes

no, it’s not simple like that.. as you can see, LG G2 and S4 have some similiarity in design. it’s difficult to create unique design today and probably it will end in court when someone said it’s their old prototype design. so sony design is the best for me. pure class and elegant

wait, aren’t suppose the power button is located at the right side of the phone? It seem to me the power button might be located elsewhere and the signature button might be different this time.

  • Sander Puus

i think sony has learned over samsung’s fatal mistake on s4 zoom that external lens is better than ugly fat camphonecam and that is really good news. thick and big bezels or not…

  • Alvin

The power button invisible in that picture because of the external camera that covers the power button…

  • 3rdflyleaf

When taking photo, that corner is the part mostly you won’t put your finger/s.

  • 3rdflyleaf

I am more concern about the “Anti-shatter film on tap of non-oleophobic front glass”. -_-

  • JEp ?

    or K850i..

  • Utsav Shah

    or K800i :p

  • Utsav Shah

or before someone say k810i :D

  • cttan456

Why are some people complaining about thick bezels? The bezel of the 5inch Xperia Z is only half as thick as the 4 inch iPhone . AND the Honami is only slightly thicker than the Xperia Z. In terms of bezel to screen size ratio, the iPhone has a bezel that is easily 2-3 times thicker than Android flagships. Figure that out!

  • cttan456

I’d rather have an LED flash and a slim chassis overall INSTEAD of Xenon flash in a thick body or Xenon flash with a thick body + even thicker camera bulge.
You can’t have Xenon and a slim chassis at the same time. Have anybody ever seen a phone with Xenon flash that is less than 10mm thick? Never!
I totally agree with Sony’s strategy of not following Nokia 1020 and Samsung S4 Zoom.
Nokia and Samsung simply slapped a no-compromise camera onto a phone with mid-range specs resulting in a thick phone for the 1020 and a downright bulky phone for the S4 Zoom.
Sony wants a true flagship phone with the best camera possible without sacrificing flagship qualities such as having the most powerful chipset and slimness.

  • XZ rocks

That might be the case or mask. It cannot a be combination of black and white though.

  • johnylim

  • Kathryn

    There’s no problem with that.

  • 3rdflyleaf

There is. Anti-shatter film can easily be scratched. And taking it off will reveal the non-oleophobic glass which is a fingerprint-magnet.

That’s why I love what they do on XperiaSP. They used oleophobic Gorilla Glass.

  • SinaKing

I Think This Super Smartphone Needs a Xenon Flash !

  • Alvin

    Or Satio…

  • Babylonbwoy

What it is funny it’s that the guy who leaked the pics from sonyalpharumors didn’t even noticed that it was Honami on the third and fourth pics yesterday!

  • Babylonbwoy

Bought the Spigen Glas.t but still didn’t applied it because anti shatter is scratched! Sony charge 59€ for replacing it I heard. If I knew that anti shatter isn’t scratch proof I would apply protection the first day.

  • Babylonbwoy

They worked on this way before sammy release s4 zoom I think, a project like that takes long.

  • ChallangetobeAccepted

So enlighten me people, what’s the benefit of carrying this around compared to a real camera?

  • Herman

    The downvoters don’t understand photography…
A xenon flash is so much more than just ‘a brighter flash than usual’.

  • Herman

I’m sure this camera easily connects to the phone’s bluetooth via NFC, making the experience as quick as possible!

  • surethom

This was my last Xenon flash phone & Loved it, but it is a feature phone not a smart phone, I so want the night time photo quality with xenon flash on an Android phone.

It looks like the Oppo N1 camera phone with Xenon flash will be my next phone

  • reza

It is 2 Zs paired with the lens as there’s barcodes printed on the bottom while the Honami features the speaker on the bottom

  • rus_media

I don’t want want to change my set more often. Already changed 3 in a year and all were from Sony. I just want to use it with my ZL. Honami is not a great set for me. So please Sell the lens separately

  • 3rdflyleaf

I think Sony should be working on this problem. This is one of the thing I hate about most Sony devices.

  • Nabil

    Having an all-in-one device maybe?

  • Babylonbwoy

No official statement from Sony about this for now, when I got the Glas.t I bought the White Ultra Capsule case as well, it comes with the Ultra Crystal screen protector (the cheaper one from Spigen), applied it to test and I can still see the scratches under it! Really disappointed with this matter.

  • Babylonbwoy

Nobody said that it is a Cybershot as long as I remember (but correct me if I’m wrong), it is just fantasmes from users.

  • gunboat_d

it’s not an all-in-one device though. i’d rather have the powershot n if i’m really concerned about size. otherwise, my nex-5n with pancake is far far far better.

  • gunboat_d

nobody is making you change your phone.

  • Babylonbwoy

Have read that (I’m not a photo addict so I don’t know much) Xenon doesn’t work for videos (as it’s only a brief flash that can’t be hold for minutes), so maybe it’s a matter of available space in the handset, if they put Xenon for photos they must add LED flash as well… Also I don’t know if it consume lots of battery or not…
    Just my thoughts…

  • Babylonbwoy

You are saying the one on the right is Z ? I don’t think so, first because of the colors, and this is an official sony photo I think and if it’s right I don’t think a company like Sony would show its next flagship in a case. Maybe just a bicolore black/white devices. Plus the frame doesn’t looks like the Z one too. I’m sure it’s Hon-ey-mi!

  • Babylonbwoy

Even if I disagree with your first point, I wonder why so many down votes !
The shiny thing is really not an issue and we don’t know as we haven’t hold it in our hands.

  • Babylonbwoy

Remember the speaker in the Xperia Z ? they put it at the bottom right and most of the time it is covered by the hand when holding it, even four months after buying it I still have issue with it.
Shit happens, no matter how big/good the company is.
We like Sony for the overall design, but sometimes they do strange things!

  • Babylonbwoy

Disagree, so you have to be a journalist to criticize journalists ? He can say whatever he wants as long as he is not disrespectful…

  • XZ rocks

No. The right one is not Z which is the left one. I am only referring to the article about how Sony is masking their phones.
Also check the leaked teaser of Honami. The sides definitely doesnot look flat (if it is real)
