in Rumours, Xperia tipo

The name of a new Sony Xperia model has been unearthed by the Indonesian Telecoms Regulatory body. They have a 100% record so far, outing the name of both the Xperia P and Xperia U before they were officially announced. The Sony Xperia Tipo Dual is likely to be low-end handset targeted to emerging markets.

We imagine that the ‘Dual’ part of its name suggests it will have dual-sim capability. The model number for the Tipo Dual is ST21i2, which suggests this is the ‘Tapioca DS’ model that has been rumoured in the past. It will be a dual-sim version of the ST21i ‘Tapioca’ that has already been previewed.

We therefore expect the handset to have the exact specs apart from dual-sim support. This includes a 3.2-inch (320 x 480) display, Qualcomm MSM7227 800MHz processor with Adreno 200 GPU, 512MB RAM, 3MP camera with no LED flash shooting video at VGA resolution (640 x 480). It will come with a 1450mAh battery and will launch with Android 4.0 ICS.
