Sony Mobile has confirmed the bootloader problem that we reported on a few days back regarding the Xperia Z1. Currently, users who unlock the bootloader of the Xperia Z1 are unable to use the camera. The only way around this is to make sure you back up the TA partition (responsible for Sony’s DRM keys) prior to unlocking the bootloader and then restore as necessary, re-locking the bootloader in the process.
Sony has now put up a message on its unlock bootloader website, clearly alerting people to the issue. The message reads: “Warning! At the moment, unlocking the Xperia™ Z1 boot loader will stop the camera functionality.” We imagine the Sony developers are hard at work on a fix and we’ll keep you updated when that happens.
