10_Xperia_Z1_Compact_ColorrangeSony has unveiled two new phones at CES 2014, the Xperia Z1 Compact, which as the name suggests is the mini version of the Xperia Z1 and the Xperia Z1s for T-Mobile in the United States. Those that follow our blog will not be surprised by the Xperia Z1 Compact as it is basically the same phone that launched in Japan recently under the Xperia Z1 f (SO-02F) name.

The Xperia Z1 Compact shares most of the same hardware of the Xperia Z1 including the Snapdragon 800 chipset, 20.7MP camera, 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage and IP55/IP58 dust and water resistance. It differs by offering a smaller 4.3-inch 720p display, 2300mAh embedded battery, a chassis measuring 127mm x 64.9mm x 9.5 mm. The handset will launch in four colours (black, white, pink and lime) with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean globally in February 2014.

  • Jonfensu

Awesome phone! . There is NOT cons.

  • V

And the Z1s? What’s the difference?

  • Jonfensu

Z1s is the Z1 T-Mobile version with 32GB of Int. memory

  • Price?

  • Jerry Berglund

Its a pity they didnt do more memory in the device. Thats a pity. But other than that I like the phone. But it should have been cool if the phone actually had better specs than the Z1. :-)

  • xperiaDROID

There is a con, but it’s not on the Z1C. The con is on Sony, they should’ve use this screen on the Z1. I hope Sony will start using IPS screen on their phones after this one.

  • scw

Compact…an obvious choice of word yet no-one seems to have guessed it.

  • xperiaDROID

The little beast has finally arrived! Now, this is what you call a true Mini. Btw, does anyone know what is the background music on the video?

  • hansip

That would make Z1 owner feel punched right in the face. Plus it is a bit true that the compact is better, longer lasting battery with IPS display to boot. It is in itself a better aspect than Z1.

  • Tim Aries

Wondering if it suffers from cracked screen like its predecessor.
Being T-Mobile exclusive also means super-late update..

  • raj

This is the DAWN of a New era, wherein the ‘Mini’ is also worthy of its name
Go down HTC One Mini, Galaxy S4 Mini and other ‘Mini’s which is not at all worthy of carrying the flagship name….

Three cheers to SONY for implementing such a great idea !!!

  • Daniel

So the ISP Display is other technology than in the current z1?

  • Colby Leong

What do you mean by “cracked screen”, like the durability, or its poor viewing angles?

  • Tim Aries

The glass durability that is. Poor viewing angles is not at all my problem.

  • Colby Leong

What have you been doing good with your phone that broke your screen? Majority of us have seen AndroidAuthority ‘s drop test, and the Z1 held out physical, but not so much internally

  • Guest

What’s the size/dimensions of this against the SP? The SP was a bit of a stretch to me and the Z was totally out of the case when I saw the size of it. This is very exciting! All nice colours too, they even got a nice shade of pink this time aha, really liking the yellow though.

  • Bambieloy Muroda
  • Gitarooman

    529 usd off contract.

  • Bryan Ng

    Epic ad video :)

  • Tim Aries

Did you use one or just watch the drop test clip?
Also it’s a quite popular problem among owners of the Z and some of the Z1 to have cracked screen even not dropped it.

  • Tim Aries

I guess the size is similar to BlackBerry z10 when on hand, which is great.

  • Colby Leong

It’s glass, tempered glass, but still glass. Every fricking smartphone has that problem of glass breaking. Are you trying to say that Sony should use Gorilla instead of Dragontrail, because glass is glass. Doesn’t get simpler than that.

  • Eric

    Really? Nice

  • Tim Aries

Glass doesn’t break automatically. You better accept that it’s the popular problem among the Z and Z1.
I just simply want the Z1S to be better so no confusing when buying it, is that a problem for you?

  • Colby Leong

So unbreakable glass for the Z1S, got it. I still don’t know what you’re getting at, is the problem the glassing breaking in general, or breaking automatically? Because, again, glass is glass it breaks, and there has been little to no news of glass just breaking automatically. How coukld the Z1S, be any better when it’s a straight Z1 with more internal storage, and the headphone jacked is moved

  • Colby Leong

It will be interesting to see how it affects the other mini handset versions to be released.

  • rend2688

Incorrect. That’s the US list price for the Z1s. The other handset announced today along side the Z1 Compact.

There has been no official pricing listed for the Compact. Yet….. (Unless someone has seen it floating around the web somewhere?)

  • Colby Leong

It’s Day One, by Rupert Pope and Giles Palmer. I used my Track ID on my Z1.

  • Colby Leong

No what would make a Z1 owner punched in the face is buying a Z1 outside of Japan, and then finding put the Japanese Version has infrared, and some other stuffs.

  • Colby Leong

Funny how they get it right on the Z Ultra, and Z1C but not the Z1.

  • Colby Leong

I think it could near the price of $600. You have to figure it is a mini, and unlike anything else released before it with the “mini” title, it has all top-notch flagship specs. That’s where I see “compact”, instead of “mini”, mini sounds cheap and watered down.

  • xperiaDROID

Thanks man, I was charging my phone just now so I can’t use Track ID. Sony always choose the right music to match the elegance on their phones. Thanks btw.

  • Colby Leong

No prob. I didn’t think they let you out of PhoneArena comment sections to go visit other sites

  • Tim Aries
  • igel705

499€ in germany. just have a look at the sonymobile page ;-)

  • xperiaDROID

You’re a PhoneArena user as well? Cool.

  • shah

omg. omg omg. pls pls pls arrive quickly to Malaysia T.T

  • Tim Aries

I hope it comes with a good price also. Around 550$ off contact should be nice.

  • Sky

    Totally going to get yellow/lime!
Also hoping that its dock is included in the box like how it was for Japan’s Xperia Z1f.

  • HardyHarHar

lol! That video almost got me… I thought for a few seconds that the camera could stretch out hahaha!

  • Wafflefactory

    Yeshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.,….FINALLY IT IS ANNOUNCED

  • AA

I want this phone. But once I get it I might miss my Xperia S’ LED bar… I really like it (sob)(drama queen)

  • Spectre51

This is not the Z1S. This is a different phone a smaller version of the Z1/Z1S.

  • Tim Aries

I was wrong at this one, thanks man.

  • Dexter Moregan

I want it but its display is too small for me although the display type is IPS. So, I prefer to wait the next flagship in the end of this year.

  • Troll

    Where’s my update? LOL

  • P9

we all guess wrong xD I laught to see its name, awesome mini all the way.

  • P9

    iphone is going hell now…

  • Makozak

They said it will be cheaper than the Z1, and Yes, on the Sonymobile official Website, it was written 499$ off contract – I think the price is just Awesome, I think this will replace my Xperia Arc S –

  • 12

    z1 c use IPS screen

  • Colby Leong

I do hope you’re right, cause that’s would pretty much solidify the Z1C as the best “mini” handset ever

  • Colby Leong

Look I get where you’re coming from, if Sony is going to use a glass body they should make it one hell of a durable phone. I think the Z1 was made a little better than the Z. If one day they could make a Sapphire glass, touchscreen, that’s extremely durable and scratch resistant then maybe we could all worry a lot less about stupid phones breaking.

  • VXIII

Yes, IPS offers better viewing angles and slightly deeper black.

  • Colby Leong

Agreed, them and AndroidAuthority. Surprised about how high the rating the Z1 got from PhoneArena. TheVerge does some good reviews, very critical, but very detailed in there review.

  • Tim Aries

Thats what I mean at first buddy, simple as it is. So why arguing anyway?

  • cherry

liver checked, heart checked, kidneys both checked. do hospital buy testicles now? thats all left inside me.

  • HardyHarHar

Are you planning to be a gay? Haha!

  • Colby Leong

I was trying to figure out what you meant by cracked screen. I forgot about the poor build quality of the Z and honestly never heard a lot about the Z1 cracking.

  • Martin Ambre

what would be the indian pricing???

  • Tim Aries

Alright, I do hear bad news about Z1 screen, and I agree at least it’s not as popular, but getting screen cracked on smartphones scared the hell out of me that’s why I put my mind into it a lot..

  • Shimoda

    Loool ! I know this song ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwYUGtI6guY

  • Chris

I have a Z1 for 2 months with no problem at all! Also in China’s forum no one reflect this. Do you really have a Sony phone?

  • Tim Aries

Your Z1 has no problem means everybody’s Z1 also have no problem? Just google it.

  • fried_egg

Remember when Sony told its staff “no more leaks” – it appears it worked well. All the gossip about Z2 (Sony made clear the Z1 remains the flagship, although the z1s is obviously adding to it a little it is the same phone in reality) or the Smartwatch3… turned out the gossip was all b/s. Sony is where it needs to be and it has the products that are at the front of the curve.

  • m sacha

very nice phone. especially loving the ips screen

  • bobeobi gzigzigzeo

The firmware is the same that already certified for Z1 (.114), and there are white balance option and glove mode. Hope that Z1 also will have it.

  • Patrol619

This phone should be released with 4.4, Sony is always one step behind..

  • sealplayerz

this phone is great. compact size but all internal spec same with z1 except display and battery :D

let’s wait people compain about bezel, bulky, andoid kitkat, glass creak and camera :D

  • Clarence Alvarado

  • Mohammed

Yess I Love it….This is What We Want…My Next phone Xperia Z1 Compact…I hate Z1 because of it’s Big and Bulky Size…:)

  • imparanoic

An iPhone 5s competitior for price of iPhone 5( c)heapen. Yet. Killer specifications that iPhone won’t get. For a few years. Apart CPU performance. Which also potentially kills forthcoming galaxy s5 mini. And htc one mini 2 if they follow their predecessor with water down specs but not so competitive pricing

  • Nikolai ivanov

I think 4.3 update won’t coming this year.

  • ? _JacK_ ?

I like it, but I hope it’s not too expensive.

    :/

  • spfan

Does it really use an IPS display? Can someone prove it to me? By the way, this is the Sony phone that I love the most. Haha!

  • shayan gozarabadi

price will be between xperia z and z1.

  • Basharca

I really love the word compact it fits greatly here! People have always referred to mini’s as underdog phones with skimmed specs. However, this is not the case at all with Sony’s mini version, so the naming fits brilliantly.

This is indeed another Z1 beast but in compact size. So it earned it’s name respectively! The Z1 compact ;)

Are you feeling the heat haters? Ya this is what I thought, you should be :D

  • roeshak

Hated the z1. Hate this even more. Big bezelled nonsense. Where’s the real successor to the Z?

  • bobeobi gzigzigzeo

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZUqtLvnDLA

Pre-view, in the end there is screen comparison: Z ultra, Z1 compact, Z1. And Compact has the best screen

  • ryq24

Once you start using 4.7 or 5″ or bigger phone its hard to go back! But when the price of this phone is reasonable or lower than the xperia z maybe it will do very well.

  • doraemonboi

Hope sony come out a read version for their future phone. :D

  • This phone will be released with 4.3, just take look on the description from sonymobile.com

  • Most of them came last year, so you’re right. #sarcasm

That being said, what is going on with the Xperia SP update?

  • Antonio Brajkovi?

Finally a flagship smartphone that is still a phone :)
TIme to say goodbye to my old Xperia S but I’ll have the comfort of looking at the same superb display :)

  • Guest

    Great site thanks!

  • pytajnik

OMG, my new phone looks so amazing… I never thought I’m gonna say that but.. I think I’ll with the white version!

  • naeemh123

This should be called the “Xperia S2”, I love it!

  • JHMBB2

Of course a week after I settle for the Z, the Z1 gets announced. I wonder if this is the same cheaper Z1 that China got?

  • Me

Just almost 5 months too late, they’ll sell a smaller version of a smartphone released in september 2013, stupid move

  • Sid

Congrats!!!! But seriously, I want to ask Sony that what they were doing for last two months with this phone??? They missed opportunity to grab market of iPhone. They lost their customers who bought other phones like Nexus 5 etc.

  • sisore

I thought I’ve said this to this nick: Don’t buy, and don’t even read news about it.
Your life will be blessed more, troll.

  • This is my next phone 100%

  • Ben Lim

    Malaysia please…

  • Anonymous

Sony, WHY WHY WHY do you still continue to make WHITE phones but you keep the front of the phone BLACK!!!??? Samsung, LG, and Apple are able to make FULL white phones. So why do you Sony keep failing???

  • Andrew Tan

Sony Xperia™ Z1 Compact – The only awesome mini edition on earth as of now!

Sony did the correct way on releasing a mini edition of it flagship without sacrificing the specification.

No company did this correctly until now – SONY rock it!

  • Andrew Tan

Because the glue it use for the water resistant thingy, unless no IP58, else front always is black.

Samsung water resistant phone front is also black. Till now no way to avoid it.

  • loco_loco

Hey, where is the antenna? I wanna watch mobile digital television too.

  • loco_loco

    Not included QX-10/100 lens?

  • loco_loco

I think it’s fit to size. For larger display, I prefer to use tablet instead.

  • loco_loco

Just go to SHARP AQUOS PHONE XX 302SH or AQUOS PHONE XX mini 303SH. You will probably love them.

  • Dexter Moregan

but for Z1,It fit for my hand rather than Z1 Compact and S that I have taken.

  • Home Sick

can somebody tell me the difference between xperia z1s, z1c and z1f ?

  • DStyle

Nice new colors of handset. Hope 2014 new flagship will have the same as well.

  • Crazinnesss
