Simple mod allows you to “Close all” recent apps; works on Xperia Z series

Xperia Close All Recent AppsWe can’t be the only ones that swipes through every single app when we want to clear the recently used apps section. Well there is another way, by installing the apk below you will find a button in the top left corner of ‘Recent apps’ that will allow you to close all of your open apps in one click. This was modified from the Japanese Xperia Z (SO-02E), which natively included the feature.

The app works on the Xperia Z, Z1, Z Ultra, ZR, and ZL, but it may also work on other Xperia handsets too. The app does not require root either. To install, download the apk below and install it as you would any other third-party app. Restart your phone and once you’ve opened a few apps, you should notice the ‘Close all’ button appear. It’s as simple as that.

  • Do the job on Z1 (french translation inc.)
As written above : install apk – reboot – enjoy the ‘close all’ button

  • Vitali

how do you uninstall this app?

  • pnk911

Works great on Xperia z 4.3 Czech Republic

  • xperiaDROID

Cool! Works on my Xperia Z with Android 4.3. But is there anyone here using Kaspersky Mobile Security? Cuz I’m using it and it’s not bad but when you close it on recent apps, it will startup again and it gets stuck at the loading screen. Oh well, have to wait until it expire so I can uninstall it and change to AVG.

  • xperiaDROID

    I want PS4.

  • xperiaDROID

That’s enough, there are no updates for the Xperia S anymore. It’s time to change to a new phone.

  • MikeViller

installed and work find with the tab Z SGP312 on 4.3 firmware…. great app will like to see some animation of the open app being swipe like cm10.2 …

  • RW87

Getting parse error when opening the APK on my Xperia Z 4.3 :(, not working

  • laci_csk

How poor you are? If you have an Xperia S

  • Vitali

im not poor i just can’t buy new one.. -_-

  • xperiaDROID

I’m not rich, and I’m just suggesting you to change to a new phone. You can trade in your phone and buy a new one, complaining on a non official Sony blog won’t change anything.

  • doucheytuesdayisback

Get a cheap Xperia T somewhere…it’s going to be very sweet with 4.3- and save until you can afford a new flagship phone

  • jumbo3220

go to settings> apps> all> then scroll down tile you find com.sonymobile.taskkiler click it and unistall

  • doucheytuesdayhellyeh

Oh well..but swiping from recent apps isn’t the same as force closing, anyway.. is it?

  • doucheytuesdayisback

Oops this doesn’t work on the T either so maybe find a cheap Z if you really like this lol

  • k

xperia z here….I already have the close all button? maybe cause its SO-02e…

  • Muhammad Zohaib Rizwani

just flash the aosp 4.4.2 rom or cm11 both are available on xda. that’s what I’ve done.

  • SK

The app is supposed to be running all the time. If u want to uninstall it, go to settings–> security –> Device administrators and un-check Kaspersky. Then u can uninstall it. And if u change to AVG it is still going to run all the time just like Kaspersky :P

  • SK

You can still enter the world of xda and root your fone and get the 4.4 version in ur S

  • SK

Pretty useful one. One i wanted for quite some time.
Installed and works without a restart on z1 – 4.3. Thanks to the developer.

  • jlol

    Lol

  • Lunkz

If you want a new Software, use a god damn Custom Mod.
Don’t complain, the Xperia S is nearly 3 Years on the Market.

I bought about 3 months ago a Z1 and it still runs with 4.2.2, do I cry?

  • kh1

This is off-topic! Could any one help? I updated to 4.3 on my Z1 but now my phone doesnt recognize the sim card and I can’t turn off my phone if I don’t press and hold power button and volume + key. Thanks in advance

are you using a sandisk memory card with sandisk memory zone?
i was and app wont recognise my card anymore, but file commander will show your card as present. if its a different card or different scenario, open the sim cover and press red button, let phone restart and you should be ready to go

  • Stephen Mcloughlin

    nice addition, thanks

  • hansip

Whoa less reason to do root :D but unfortunately i don’t like how that in 4.2.2 and up, the front app is included in the recent app list so when i press close all the foreground app is gone.. :(

  • Tiff

    Oh, hello there!

  • Vitali

Nah… I still have a little more time to finish pay for the S… Don’t ask… Mobile providers sucks.. XD
And I was thinking about a tablet like Xperia Tablet Z.. It’s a monster. and then I’ll enjoy the updates in the tablet ;)

Also later on, if possible tell us if you get an update for the next build on a leaked ROM…

  • Abhijit Biswas

After all this delay for 4.3 I hope that they release the upcoming flagship “Sirius” with 4.4, else the whole kitkat update wait will end in November 2014 when there will be two new more android OS available…. No sarcasm, this is a serious concern!

Sony Xperia Z2 back cover leaks along with some specs | A report out of China, published on Friday, shows an image that purportedly reveals the back cover for the Sony Xperia Z2, code named Sirius. The source of the photograph is said to be someone working in Sony’s R&D department. The picture was accompanied by a short list of specs. According to the Sony insider, the phone will feature a 5.3 inch screen, be equipped with a 23MP rear-facing camera, and be offered in 5 colors… —- read it here: http://ift.tt/1adjVnI (click the link)

  • Lunkzknowsitall

Hm, nearly 3 years? It was released in the beginning of 2012, you moron!

  • Lunkz

Do you know how long it took from announcement till release?

It was the main reason why I skipped the Xperia S and still used my snail slow Xperia Arc then bought the Z and now using the Z1.

The other reason was it shipped with a really old Android Version Gingerbread, instead of ICS.

  • i want them to auto close

i honestly want a close button for apps and not even button being a minimize button

  • Emil Oskarsson

Works great on my Xperia Z non rooted

  • Mac

Sadly it doesn’t work on my Acro S on 4.1.2 official.
But soon Imma get my hands on a z1 compact :-D

  • kh1

Thanks but it still can’t recognize my SIM Card and the screen froze when I turn off the phone normally! I don’t know what happen with this. It’s okay with 4.2.2

  • Jerry Berglund

The announcement for Xperia S was in January 2012 and it started to get sold in February. So no big waiting. The problem was more that the phone had the hardware that was standard in 2011 so in a way the phone was old from start. The hardware is the years old lol

  • P9

why only Japan again? Sony, we are ur big fan too!

I’ve some problems with auto-updating of some applications. Chrome 32.0 could not open at all after update, Instagram 5.0 gave me error messages. Have to uninstall and reinstall both applications to let it work again.

As of now, there is no update for the leaked ROM as 12.1.A.0.263 should see the official launch of the Android 4.3 update for the Sony Xperia SP and that nobody gets the leak for this version.

  • Opinion

then probably u will get update in a year or two, with nothing big different, sony firmware update on the right track, they also support mid-range smartphone, and 2012 flagship such as xperia v

  • Exactly that, trading.
That’s what I’d recommend if people want to get rid of their Xperia S’.
You won’t get the latest and greatest phones, but you may be lucky to get a more popular phone that you can once again trade.
Or sell the Xperia S for much and get an Xperia Z for little. That doesn’t cost much (if you’re lucky it costs nothing) and you’ll have an upgraded device.

Is it possible to close unwanted apps ie stop them from running 24/7. Not uninstall, just disable them from eating unwanted battery life. I find a lot of the pre-installed apps pointless, yes promotional and maybe useful to the younger owners (under 62) but I find them as useful as a chocolate teapot.
I like the fact that apps are there and can be used when called for, but do they really need to be running all the time.

  • Phillip

Sorry for the xperia L model my post was for.

  • After lollipop update in my Z1, the extension does not work and is just another space taker.. .
