Its also available in switzerland, will get mine tomorrow! Good bye xperia ray!

  • Phlash

Mine is en-route from Carphone Warehouse. (UK)

  • I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: where’s the news about a US/North America release?

  • vcsg01

Take this for what its worth but a Sony sales rep told me a Feb 15th release date for the US. I specifically asked him if that was for the US and he said yes. Fingers crossed!

  • I’ll believe it once it’s actually for sale! Though no word for a US LTE compatible version going through the FCC has leaked, so that date is suspect to me.

  • –MaK–

yes! mine will be here on friday….white one!

  • vcsg01

I could see them launching it as pentaband hspa+ only, which I hope they don’t do their devices need better lte support here if they want to sell high end phones. One interesting thing is on the Taiwan sony site they list the model as the d5503/g and its hspa+ only. So maybe they are changing from the current model number scheme that we have seen in the z1 and previous models.

  • Stephen Mcloughlin

id really like the lime/yellow one but im stuck in a 2 year contract with my z1,
    only 20 months left :-(

  • Prateek Bhanushali

I don’t think it vl launch in India. The market whr larger phones are considered more money valued product.

    Indonesia please !!

  • Kline

That’s nice…BUT WHAT ABOUT US XPERIA SP USERS, WHERE’S OUR JB 4.3 UPDATE??? WE EXIST FIRST, AND WE’RE STILL WAITING FOR IT. Sony promised it for late Jan…or early Feb. It seems like by this way MAYBE for…July or August, maybe and Kit Kat for 2016. Then again… MAYBE…

  • infinity

Great news, this means the marketing department will now allow the updates to the SP, T and V! Next week, maybe?

  • vcsg01

Do you think the writer of this article works for Sony?

  • Luis

I think I’m crazy! Some sites say Z1 Compact has a IPS LCD screen, others say it has Triluminous.

Which one is right after all?

  • starkiller306

when the hell is it gonna launch in India?!!!

  • Sebastian Bille

In Germany, its available at for 416 EUR:

  • Nimche

I think the D5503 works on US tmobile LTE, all I have to do is ask tmobile to pay of my contract with at&t and move there..

  • Roy Chao

I spoke to Tmobile via live chat and the woman confirmed that the Taiwan (D5503) model’s bands will work with Tmobiles LTE network.

I have heard Zero information about the phone being released in the US at this time. As a result, I got a connect in taiwan now coming back the 10th, trying to coordinate him bring over one of those Taiwan models for me for Tmobile (my current network). Wish me luck!

  • Nimche

Could you share some pricing? I pre-ordered through handtec in UK but no stock news yet. I was thinking to order from and I will talk to them as soon as they wake up. couple more hours.

  • Roy Chao

Where did you speak to this sales rep? Via phone, sony store? I just dont know how credible his sources may be. :(

  • Roy Chao

I dont have exact details on pricing at this time because the phone does not get released to the public until the 7th of February. Without Sony announcing the final retail prices, this may or may not be correct but sources say it’ll retail for NT$15,380 or for US ~$510usd. Hope theyre correct.

  • vcsg01

Make certain to check the actual phone packaging if you are going with a model from Taiwan. If you look under the spec tab on this page;pgid=LWR0SIe.pfFSR0TR7N0Oc2Af0000s627CIet?ProductUUID=IjgKAQuswU8AAAFDfc0NmIrz&CatalogCategoryID=77678599F46D4D4BAB08A440&DummyCategoryUUID you will see that there is no lte mentioned. At the bottom of the page the model is listed as d5503/g.

  • vcsg01

In was just in a chat window on the USA sony store website. It took him like 5 minutes to come up with the info. Im the first to doubt info given by these means but he made it sound like he had product documentation for the usa model right in front of him. Time will tell if that date comes and goes without any action. Im willing to wait because I don’t want to deal with any warranty issues from importing.

  • Stephen Mcloughlin

do u have a link that says 416 euros?
the link you gave says 496 euros

  • ShiroiTaka

Mines on order in store :) May have to pop in later see if its there!

  • Telaran

Yes, some shops in switzerland have it on stock.
    Price are around 500 CHF (~558$, ~410€)
The provider it seems have them not yet (Swisscom mentioned end of February)

  • HardyHarHar

IPS is a LCD type. Triluminous display is a technology applied to LCDs for a richer color output.

It’s not about who comes first. It’s about marketing. Obviously they need to release a higher version of android to their flagship model to avoid being told that they don’t update OS. Whilst the likes of Xperia SP has a different components hence it can’t be easily ported unlike the Xperia Z1 Compact which is literally the same as the flagship model.

    So order is like this…
    1. Current flagship
    2. Non flagship phones
    3. Last year’s flagship
    4. Last year’s non flagship phones

Sorry buddy but software development is not as easy as click right here and click right there and done.

  • Sebastian Bille

No, it doesn’t for me. It says 416. Are you from Germany?

  • Sebastian Bille

Oh, I am sorry, 416 is for Business to Business

  • Stephen Mcloughlin

  • starkiller306

The customer support people are of no help either. they just say they don’t have any info atm and any new info will posted on their website. it’s a bloody shame. :/

  • anonim

around end of march or april first ….

I do understand the risks. Is LTE that important though since i am using Tmobile? Their LTE locations in the US is so limited at this time and it’ll be a couple years before its optimized. Based on this site it said itll have Cat4 LTE which is Tmobile’s band.

In addition, I did the live chat with US sony too but the tech told me theres no official information released about the US availability. Im not to sure what to do.

  • vcsg01

Lte actually isn’t a huge deal to me personally. I’m just relaying what Sony’s actual Taiwan site is showing. From the looks of it they are using a different model numbering scheme with the compact. ie 5503,5503/G. I’d rather wait a few weeks to see what happens because even though Lte isn’t a huge deal for me if they release it here with support for Lte on tmo and att that phone will have better resale

  • Roy Chao

I agree, waiting till the end of February is the safest route to see whether z1compact is released and also see the WMC releases and potential Samsung early release rumors.

Id have to make a decision since my connect in Taiwan will be traveling back on the 10th, which is before all those things mentioned. IMO i think Resell will be better with an international version since its carrier unlocked and nonbloated with software.. where as the phone tied to ATT/Tmobile will be modified. Who knows.

  • vcsg01

I doubt the compact will be tied to a retailer. Sony will most likely sell it unlocked from their site.

  • Utsav Shah

any news regarding the availability in the US?

  • Laurie Miles

Mine arrived today in the UK, with the free SmartWatch 2. Rather inexplicably this is the label (see photo) DHL had put on the side of the box. Even more worrying was that my receptionist (I am a GP) had accepted the package without question!

It’s a standard label for packages containing lithium ion batteries – they can be dangerous if pierced

What part of that did you think was relevant to this article?

Looks like it’ll support US LTE as well. Only thing i am risking is the warranty now.
