Xperia Z KitKat leaked screens_15Just yesterday we were speculating that a new firmware build (10.5.A.0.227) for the Xperia Z (C6603) was most likely Android 4.4.2 KitKat. Well today XDA legend DooMLoRD has released some screenshots of this firmware build for the Xperia Z, confirming it is indeed Android 4.4.2 KitKat.

From the face of it, the screenshots look similar to the Xperia Z1 with full-screen transparency that KitKat brings, the new Notification/Quick settings drop-down bar that we’re not fond of and an update of the camera apps. DooMLoRD also confirmed, unsurprisingly, that there is no double-tap-to-wake feature. We understand that DooMLoRD may be in a position to leak this ROM soon, so we’ll keep you posted.

can not wait for update to release for India xperia z!!

  • Zakriya

Sony should add an option to change fonts. I think it will be very nice and it’s a great feature. :-)

  • xPnoyStar

Wow! Seems great, hopefully this update has not many bugs. *finger crossed*

  • Mazar

let’s hope the Xperia SP get’s 4.4.2 as well.

i hope so to , they have tested this fw since z1 seria got the kitkat , så probably it has no bugs :) hopefully anyway :;P

  • Vitali

what is this app “Xperia SDCARD ..” ?? What does it do?

  • DE L TA

Can we move apps to sd card now?

cant wait ,:) one fail emoji doesn´t work when u have t9 layout marked only sony usally smileys and symbols:/

  • MT

    Xperia SP won’t get 4.4.2

  • Haroon Rashid

    How do you know?

4.4 is on it’s way and the T-Mobile Xperia Z (C6606) is still stuck on 4.2! Good thing I switched from that to an Unlocked Xperia Z1 (C6903)!

  • Prateek Bhanushali

Has Camera Quality improved (as on .67 update)??? DooMLoRD ???

  • Makiz

I hoped for an FTF leak and not just pictures that makes us more impatient! You bad boy Doomlord :P

  • Dan

    This look good enough

  • metcarded

I’m happy with the current 4.3 build, so I think I’ll wait a few weeks to see how people are getting along with the KK update. Removal of some features doesn’t tickle my fancy, and that new drop down quick settings menu setup sounds unnecessary. Also disappointing that they didn’t add double tap to wake, it’s my favourite feature on a tablet that I have, maybe it’s a licensing issue?

  • Guest

Hope KK removes the brightness bug

  • Toxicon

Hopefully also for Xperia V and T :)

  • Zed

i’m interested in the change log. we all know that not all sony kitkat features will be present but, hey, a kitkat is still a kitkat! fair enough. now, we just need to wait with bated breath.

  • Arturo Pastrana

In its page they said its under investigation, but a few weeks ago here in this blog there are strong rumors it will not get KitKat

  • Haroon Rashid

Well it’s not official yet and the page hasn’t been updated, so us Xperia SP users still have hope.

  • Arturo Pastrana

Well the note from the other day come from an official support account from sony, so its a little black the future for the moment for SP

  • Sam Albalushi

    What about other z series

  • FermentedDischarge

Change font sizes? That has been there since it came out a year ago.

  • Faiz Ikari

It’s not font size, but font type…

  • Empiro Saivate

cant they make the background for each page with black and the fonts white…its so boring

  • Jerry Berglund

Starting to get the feeling Xperia V wont get the update. If my calculations aint wrong the phones its close too 2 months left before it reaches the 18th month. But well, I am getting the z1 compact anyway. :-)

  • JHMBB2

What does this mean for T-Mobile versions?

  • theskig

    NFC icon?

  • Natxo Baraja

Looks like a shortcut to the SDCard like the other icon on the left side being a shortcut to reboot menu.

  • Giannikosmo

Wow! That was quick hope the update comes in the first days of May! :)

  • Xperia_Fan

Will the softkeys hide when playing games, cuz i heard it came on googles android 4.4.
Hope it’s also on Sony’s Kitkat.

  • Kater

Doesn’t suprise that there’s no t2w, since z series didn’t got the smart social camera before z1 comes out, isn’t it? I just hope Sony would realease the capability of ART finally, even there’s no more chances to update the android4.5

  • Haroon Rashid

If it was really confirmed, Sony would have updated the support page by now…

  • Matt Pankey

I knew that would happen when I bought the TMo Z. I just chalked it up as a lost cause and got an M8 TMo pisses me off about phones they have as exclusives. Usually one update and that’s it.

  • P9

    XZ <3 SONY <3

  • Brad Williams

I’ve been looking forward to this update but I’ll finally get it and the Z2 will be released here. :)

  • [A]dri[A]n

Absolutely nothing Lol This is most likely for the Unlocked variants. You’ll be lucky to get the update for T-Mobile anytime soon, if ever.

  • HardyHarHar

Get Gingerbread…. That feature has been outdated years ago lol! Don’t expect it to come back seeing google even trying to nerf SD Cards since kitkat.

  • Billy de Fretes

i hope my xperia z will get next android update after kit kat. is the new movie editor will available in xperia z like z1 kit kat?

  • kater

strange, what’s that Xperia SDCARD M…. is? an unique solution of allowing 3rd party APPS to use sd cards?

If i’m not mistaken, its up to the developer of the game whether he/she would allow immersive mode in the game itself.

  • Shreenit Shahapurkar

i hope T2 Ultra gets this! Gonna order it soon! Was gonna go with SP, but just because of the support and updates and how Sony screwed SP oveer updates.. T2 it is!

  • Vhan Modders

Why no white balance in display setting? :S

  • Actman

One thing I like about SONY’s firmware is because the UI. No matter which model your phone was you still can enjoy the same UI as the latest flagships. Unlike SAMESUNG. Updated S4 to KITKAT and the UI was same as the old one. Crap!

  • Feanor

Sometimes people make such fuss about updates. I bought my Z1 Compact with Android 4.3 and now it’s been about a couple of weeks that it’s running 4.4. There is nothing in this update to wow me. Actually I even miss one or two features from the older build, like e.g. the changing font colour every time you were changing themes in Android 4.3, or the translucent drop down menu. Still proud to run KitKat but more for the bragging rights rather than for anything else.

  • Rob

Just means that NFC is on.

Assuming it’s the same as on Z1 Compact, you can setup whether or not the icon should show up or not when its active. Personally I hide all that stuff :)

  • Giannikosmo

    Like PlayStation 3!

  • Philip

You can do this on android 4.3.root

How can i get the Emojis from the Sony stocm keypad?
I’m on a Z1C KitKat, i updated to last version of the keypad, but i don’t have those emojis there

  • Dido

I think it will be back in full 4.4.2 version.

  • PINN

Sony should add the unique sound of PlayStation to Xperia phone as well.

As far as I’m aware, the confirmation of the SP not getting Kitkat came before the latest .201 bug fix was released. When Sony updated the support page to show the new change log, they didn’t change the Kitkat status. You are right in the sense that they are slow with updates (I’m still on 4.1.2).

‘SAMESUNG’ – I see what you did there…

Nope, it is an app to mount internal storage of Xperia devices as usb storage drive, which is usually mounted as mtp, so You can use various tools(teracopy) to copy data to phone internal memory very fast.

  • Sony

Yup, SP days are over. It won’t be getting Android 4.4

  • Shreenit Shahapurkar

Yeah! Especially considering how capable it is and how it its let down and plagued by software issues, Otherwise the chipset easily beats the Snapdragon 400 present in the T2 Ultra by a great margin. Alas! Waiting for my T2 to arrive now :)
