in Android, Firmware

android_5_lollipopYesterday we brought you news that the Android 5.0 Lollipop rollout was expected to start next week according to Sony Mobile Indonesia. That has now been reiterated by Sony Mobile France who has tweeted that its intention is to start the Lollipop deployment next week for the Xperia Z3.

In another tweet, Sony Mobile France also confirmed that the ability to move apps to SD card will be supported. This was first mentioned in the changelog provided by Sony Mobile Indonesia, so it looks like this particular Lollipop feature is a lock, which will please Xperia Z series owners.

Lollipop SonyXperiaFR

Thanks Antonio, François and Keshav!

  • Messup7592

I’m in France, yay! But I have the Z1 lol

  • Lukáš Pávl

    It’s about time.

  • Niek van Rijswijk

Well if it does not roll out next week, I don’t know what to believe anymore.

But let’s assume it does. And before we all begin complaining (ugh this sux!11!!) let’s see what the final build holds.

  • Chetan Reddy

Awesome might be next week then

  • tiborh

I hope it got less bugs than LG G3 with Lollipop. That was fine with KK, but now, the double tap to wake is broken… so my Z3 will be bugless , I hope

  • Spontex

    Il était temps (petit navire).

  • Adrian

    What about RAW Photos?

  • Makiz

    No way… >_<

  • Snorky112

    un*

  • Raj Singh

Je vous remercie beaucoup pour fournir cette information.

  • Adrian

That will be a stupidity. They claim that one phones are camera phones, the sensor is supporting RAW, so why not? Sony is making a big mistake if they will skip this feature.

  • Makiz

I hope that we will see this feature with the release of Z4 at least….

  • Kiwison

Once I’d like to get an update before anyone, just once..everytime I see the post here a few days later I get it :( UK

  • Vuyo Ncube

;( no one talks about it anymore. It’ll probably be out in April.

  • Sweggity
  • Ricardo Ca

Few days. You luck B@#$%¨! Here BR will take weeks…;-)

  • roeshak

Hopefully the z2 should receive it before end of the month then. About time too. Delayed long enough!

  • THANK YOU SONY
    AND
    I LOVE YOU SONY

  • Nathan

    I can’t wait!

Sony has understood the wishes of their customers. App to SD returns! :D

  • Gutt Grinder

Well if its not buggy i’ll update but I’m currently happy with my 4.4.4 kitkat for myz2.. Not to mention i installed a theme that changed the navigation buttons to make it look like lollipop os… (got it from xperia blog.. Thanks..)

    Here’s a screenshot..

  • Arthur Ho

Still (im)patiently waiting for my Z1 compact to be update to Lollipop, well i guess Malaysia will be in few month time :(

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

What? they mentioned that they’re gonna release the update at the same time for entire Z series! If they don’t then that means they are some sorts of piece of sh*t.

  • Amel_Marie

Tu la. Aku sampai sekarang masih x dapat photo editor nyer update

  • Omeed Heydari

Stupid Sony, Every phones from another manufactures got Lollipop, but My ZUltra will be get it month later from now! F***!

  • Carlos W. H. Sun

    Untrustworthy.

  • Kaarthikeyan Swaminathan

They would phase it out to avoid server crashes.

  • Wolf0491

If I may ask where did they say they were all getting it same time? I don’t remember ever seeing that

  • Wolf0491

Honestly didn’t care about the update until I saw we can put apps on SD card again! Shit yeah! Bring on the massive games!

  • Robin

When it will be available for all Z series??mine is Xperia ZR

  • Carlos W. H. Sun

Search with the keywords “xperia lollipop theme” in play store.

  • Nathan Cheow

    How About Malaysia?

  • i need lollipop for my Xperia T2 Ultra

  • Kunal Shukla

  • Billy de Fretes

if you failed, then it’s not every F*** Manufacturer…

  • bzhzhJjsbzbz

    you need to shut up

  • lollipop is good

  • jxPerience

Sony your camera is GOOD but we DEMAND GREAT outcome from your camera.

  • Arthur Ho

Biasa la, kita ni selalunya terakhir yang dapat update :(, jangan katakan update untuk OS, update untuk apps pun lambat :|

  • Emil Oskarsson

Not the same time, they said starting with Xperia z3 and z2 series and then upgrade the rest afterwards… :)

  • Emil Oskarsson

The reason why I think Sony does a better job with new updates. They are fully tested (or really really close to) before they release them :) Samsung always rush out updates and see how that goes….

  • Emil Oskarsson

Maybe it will come after all, they seem to update Xperia c3 so why not t2 ultra? :)

  • Emil Oskarsson

Given the amount of time they spent on testing the new update and fixing bugs, you might not get any bugs at all :)

  • Luís Alberto Pérez

Could be good but it’s far from perfect. The new Material Design is great but in performance and stability KitKat is better. My Nexus 7 (2013) was perfect with 4.4.4 and now with 5.0.2 it’s just normal. In 4.4.4 only turned off/on once a week now it’s almost every day.

  • Emil Oskarsson

Yeah because Samsung, for example, does a really good job with updates, buggy as hell and half bakes software. Sony does a better job with updates, honestly!

    SHITSUNG/CRAPSUNG FAN

  • Prasad Saxena

SHITSUNG/CRAPSUNG doesn’t support it now..!!! SO its SONY.

  • Omeed Heydari

come on, these manufactures are not very popular except huawei, why you think a person prefer “WIKO” instead of “Sony” “Samsung” “LG” and… IF THERE IS NO MONEY ISSUE??

  • Prasad Saxena

I think you should go with shitsung/crapsung to get updates faster the next time. Otherwise I would bet on Motorola.

  • Chetan Reddy

Samsung galaxy note4 still did not get lollipop in india ….Only a handful of flagships got the update. ANd ypur Z ultra is not a flagship.Even in LG,Samsung, Htc ..they did not update their 1and half year old devices

  • Yeke xdpt lagi? Slow nye Malaysia -_-

Aku dpt je sbb beli kat Malaysia tapi duk kat Jordan.

  • Amel_Marie

    Hahah dia ikut negara kot?

  • MEEMEE

Fair enough. Appropriate software will need to be available to get the most out of that (ie powerful and accessible through the device).

I hope people realise RAW isn’t just inherently better.
The files will be much larger and images will most probably be displayed on the phone with the same processing of the jpegs.
When removed from the phone / if that is not the case, they will look very bland / unappealing / bad.
They will require some sort of processing.

I think a better jpeg engine is more important.
Also, I don’t think most RAW enthusiasts realise just how flexible jpegs can really be.

  • nick

Well happy waiting time we are having …and btw no software is bugfree

  • nick

    Well read google changelog…for lollipop..
    N btw I dnt give a F*** about shitsung..

You don’t need it. You want it! I feel your pain but it’s always a risk with mid range devices. The simple truth is your better off purchasing last year’s flagship than a mid ranger. You get a better phone for close to the same price.
Mid range devices have had their day. Budget phones still have a place but not mid rangers especially with all the competition out there coming from the Chinese. OK the xperia m4 aqua may cost less than the z2s current price but the z2s the much better phone so in my opinion that’s the better buy!

“In another tweet, Sony Mobile France also confirmed that the ability to move apps to SD card will be supported” I wasn’t bothered about Lollipop before but i want it NOW after reading this :P

  • Messup7592

I think so. I have asked if all the Z series models will receive lollipop at the same time, Sony fr replied that they will be updated by successive steps, so I guess beginning or middle of April for the Z1…

  • Khillo81

They probably didn’t add it since they’re going to do away with the SD card in the upcoming S6. Upgrade indeed…

  • Walkman? it is you?

  • Timel

    MixaDJ is cool!

  • inspire

If you don’t understand how software roll-out works then please don’t label others as “piece of s#!t”. You’re just backfiring your abuses on yourself :)
Moreover, Sony always said that the update will start from Z3 series and rest will follow successively. Nowhere they said that complete Z series will be updates at the same time!
There are several problems in parallel roll-out: server crash, rollback difficulties (if needed), support difficulties… to name a few.

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

I thought that this means that they’ll release it for entire series in one day. Well whom am I kidding!!

    http://www.xperiablog.net/2015/03/06/sony-says-no-lollipop-for-non-xperia-z-series-owners/

  • Android Masterrace!

Get out of here kid. Go back to your village and let the adults talk.

  • Android Masterrace!

That’s just how Nexus’ devices are. You’re just our beta tester before Sony fixes and optimises Google’s code so it works properly.

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

I know not many will read my comments but honestly man if you think that Sony can learn and improve more in their software side, Plus we all know that they release good software. But don’t you think this is like entirely repeating X10 and not upgrading the NON-Z series is like repeating the same strategy. Oh yea you might say “Samsung and HTC never release for their mid/entry-level” But if they’re following the same foot step of Samsung or HTC why don’t they update the devices. I know my words only affect cause no one reads LOL. Anyways if they don’t act fast like their gaming system, they will keep losing customers and money because they only spend time on testing the upgrade cause when they release it all of their customers have left the company to some other company which release the software faster and with less bugs and all. Let’s see how stable this release will be cause I know for a fact there will be plenty of bugs when this will be released and plenty will complain, then what? Sony will have to think oh crap We should’ve released the update before cause now we have to release another stupid update to fix those bugs which will take like ages and ages,… :sigh: :sigh: :sigh: LOL

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

Yea I think the same but I hope they update Z2/Z3 back to back on Tuesday then Z1/Z on Thursday. Hopefully,………………………

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

Oh wow really, this is so sad man. No wonder why this company is losing customers and money. I really started to hating this strategy, I really thought that they’ll change in time but it took like 5-6 years to learn. and they still don’t learn from their mistakes. Just one word for them “idiots”

  • Android Masterrace!

Atleast Sony actually take advantage of the new API. Most other OEM’S don’t actually have it anymore.

let me repeat again… every phones from another manufactures got lolipop but my z ultra will be get it month later from now….
every smartphones from another manufactures means every android phones that already released on the market MUST BE ON LOLIPOP! not just sony, samsung, lg…. even if you put only samsung, i dare you to prove EVERY SMARTPHONES FROM SAMSUNG ON LOLIPOP…
can you prove that i’m wrong about asking every phone and not just flagship phones from some manufactures?????

  • crapifiknow

screw all these other places…MR Verizon….any ideas?

  • Peter

I hope they included the new camera API, it’s all I want for lollipop

  • Luís Alberto Pérez

5.0 launch was rubbish. I will not upgrade my Z to Lollipop before I’m sure it’s bug free. Love my Z with 4.4.4

  • Snorky112

no matter if it’s called music or walkman it’s the same app …

  • jep

Why dont you have to be so detail?even me who not educated know when he said every phone he mean flagship phone.just take it easy.

  • Diogo Simões

    The design is different

  • Kaarthikeyan Swaminathan

I wouldn’t hope on that as from the previous observations they delay the 2nd wave atleast by a weeks time if not a fortnight. Hopefully some happy faces (z3, z2) by end of march

  • Prateek Bhanushali
  • Lee Jia Hui

I’m from Malaysia but I got the both(Album and Photo Editor) updates a week more ago….
The only things I can’t get is the Gold in Xperia Lounge…haha XD

  • Emil Oskarsson

No but Sonys softwares for my Xperia Z have been almost bug free, sure there have been bugs but none who did interfear with the daily user experience :p

  • RoberMC

Samsung released the S6 without MicroSD card… now sony introduces move apps to SD card, well done Sony, i must applaud this.

  • Prateek Bhanushali

Japan usually sees more price tag than the rest of the countries…. And Sony still has 5% stake of vaio, So it do matters 5% :D :D

dude, English is not my native language but when someone said every phone or every cars / products it means whole things not just some flagship. if the guest guy first comment, every flagship from htc, lg, samsung only not every phones from manufactures, i won’t even make a comment but hey, even in my country not all flagship already got lolipop.

“I hope people realise RAW isn’t just inherently better.”

It -is- inherently better, by definition, if you’re just comparing the technical aspect of the formats.

If we’re talking about the best ‘experience’ for the average end-user, then of course defaulting to RAW isn’t a smart move, but having the option doesn’t hurt. I wouldn’t exclusively shoot RAW on a cellphone camera, but for special events where I knew I wanted the best possible photos, I would shoot RAW without hesitation.

  • mukul verma

what about 95% owner of Japan Industrial Partners, does 95<5? no use of 5% of sony in this. does vaio uses any parts made by sony? NO, & its a copy phone of panasonic eluga u2 (except full HD to 720p screen) which costs only $235, why any one will buy this shit.
its cost in dollar not in yen which is double of inr.

  • daviddang

this is the reason i feel like the Z4 will indeed keep microSD even though some sites are saying they’re abandoning it. to me it looks like, and i really hope, the sim and microSD are just under one flap

I signed in using my Sony Entertainment Network account since the day I
brought my phone. Until the day Sony introduce the Xperia Lounge Gold
feature, I upgraded my account to Gold. But, Sony removed the “Sony
Entertainment Network” sign in option in the updates. After I reset my
phone (cuz too much of unnecessary things), I can’t get the Sony
Entertain sign in option. Even I uninstall updates and replace it with
factory version(Xperia Lounge). I tried to sign in using the other three
option. But I can’t get Gold, because I already upgraded it with my
Sony Entertain account. Sad case. I can’t get the offers. I told the
Sony Support and App Developer the only way they gave was just reset my
phone. Just hope they will add the option again. =(
