Xperia T2 Ultra Lollipop firmware gets certified by Bluetooth SIG

by XB on 22nd March 2015

in Android, Firmware, Xperia T2 Ultra

Xperia T2 Ultra LollipopEarlier this month we reported that the Android Lollipop update had been certified by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group, well the Xperia T2 Ultra has now seen the same. Bluetooth SIG has certified the “Tianchi Update to L”, signifying the ‘L’ for Lollipop update for the Xperia T2 Ultra (codenamed Tianchi).

Sony has not made it clear whether it plans to update select 2014 non-Xperia Z series handsets to Lollipop, but these certifications are promising and shows that Sony is at least internally doing some testing. As soon as we have word one way or the other, we will let you know.

Xperia T2 Ultra Lollipop

Thanks Aaron!

  • XperiaSP

what about the SP? We are still waiting for 4.4

  • Guest

    Good!

  • piece of

Like the Xperia T users ! Justice for xperia pre Z series models!!

    Just kidding

  • u fanboy?

This and C3 Lollipop certification means Sony is definitely giving updates for non-Z Xperias.
I hope my Z1 gets it soon, I am very excited to try Lollipop update.

  • bao trung giang

    OMFG! What about z1?!

  • borntoparty

    Next month maybe? who knows….

  • Sultan Albatati

I never think lollipop just for z series. Bcos sony never said about that. Maybe a month ago about tweet say just for z, sony social media team do something wrong. So i still waiting lollipop land on my m2 aqua.

  • roeshak

Updating mid range devices some of which are just months old to lollipop is the very least Sony should do.
Promising news because the alternative would have just produced a very wretched situation indeed!

  • jag

Good thing they will update the last year series. This will save their name. Cheers!

  • Diogo Simões

Sony said two weeks for other models…

  • Cris de Oliveira

:) It makes me happier. x)

  • Amel_Marie

Good but z3 D6653 still hasnt received update haha!

  • Michelasso

If I was Sony I would make only three lines of phones. E for economic, M for medium and the Z flagship. With compact or large models where suitable. Then I would make the difference promising (and delivering!!) the updates to all of them. Going heavy with PR on this last point.

In other words reduce the fragmentation making the updates development skinnier and thus faster. This would win the competition. No need for dozens of devices one can’t even support.

  • jep

I think sony said following 2 week for other model is just for nordic and baltic region only.our d6653 maybe next month.maybe…im so frustrated,so long waiting and still not getting bugless firmware

  • Amel_Marie

    Next month? For flagship z3?

  • proberts

My T2 Ultra is still on 4.3, what happened to 4.4.

  • jep

perhaps.cause right now i dont hear lolipop comes to other region..just wait patiently.maybe sony modified the firmware before roll to other region.let just hope so

  • Vinicius Araujo

It was already released a long time ago… Maybe your carrier didn’t released it or something.

  • proberts

It’s sim unlocked. no system updates have ever appeared on update centre or PC companion. I’ll just have to use xperifirm.

  • Luís Alberto Pérez

Flashtool. Why you want to wait?

  • So still no one talk about older xperia z phones..

  • Lovelesh Khatter

i hope lollipop is also release for xperia t2 ultra dual d5322

  • Paul Muad’Dib

Perfect! I will enjoy my T2 Ultra with Lollipop.

  • Vinicius Araujo

This is so weird, but, try with xperifirm. It works perfectly well. Personally I’ve never waited for an update, I just use xperifirm and flashtool and done :-D

  • Vinicius Araujo

Seems like they’re doing it in 2015.

E for entry level, M for mid range, C for selfie phone and Z for flagship. lol

  • Paul Muad’Dib

You need to use Xperifirm and Flashtool in order to instal the last official ROM (4.4.3). Some regions didn’t received the update to 4.4. I have a T2 Ultra D5304 with Central European ROM and the last version is only 4.3. Take a look and install ROMs from UK, Spain, Italy and so on.

  • Paul Muad’Dib

    And T for?

  • shhh

    Thanks, Obama.

  • i want lollipop for my Xperia T2 Ultra

  • .

  • Thank you sony

  • Chan Kin Cheung

    trash, lol just kidding ^^

  • Stanley08

Yet the Xperia Z2 one came the next day :p

  • Paul Muad’Dib

Well, T (T, T2 Ultra, T3) series are quite good. E was trash. E and E1 were annoying like hell. :D T seems to be the big phones but not the peak of the hardware like Z. Perhaps Sony will launch an updated T for T2 Ultra.

  • 5u5m1t

I think the hope for the SP went a long time ago, sorry

  • 5u5m1t

Z1? I’ve still not got anything for the Z3c!

  • Chen

How about the z1,Sony no make believe and always make our feel disappointed

  • jep

Cause i heard someone said battery drain, not charged to 100% and etc.so i just dont want to take the risk?0r u already flashed?how about it?

  • Alexsandro Peres

Nem adianta ficar tão feliz assim… A Sony também confirmou que o Xperia SP teria o android 4.4.4 e acabou não disponibilizados a atualização pra ele! :( Hoje sou feliz com um Z Ultra e no aguardo do Android L! ;)

  • Luís Alberto Pérez

I haven’t read bad problems with the update. I think Sony choose to update directly to 5.0.2 because Google official update (5.0 and 5.0.1) were really bad. And I now what I’m taking about because I own a Nexus 7 2013

  • Jonathan Bratanata

Sony mobile communications should fire the PR guys that run the twitter accounts

  • ToharLalua

    Any progress on Lollipop distribution?

  • bilomar

Their German twitter also says lollipop rollout started for Germany last week which isn’t true.

    trendy and phableT like phones

  • Samantha Alexandra Vélez Salin

E isn’t trash. Xperia E3 is the same as M2 but with 4gb internal storage less and a 5 mpx camera. Now E4 is up to the high of a M series. Indeed E and E1 are entry level and they are like the 2012 xperia tipo, btw stucked forever in android ICS with unofficial JB and unofficial camera defective KK.

  • Samantha Alexandra Vélez Salin

looks like 2014 devices will taste a new sweet lollipop. good new for C3 and T2 ultra. E3, T3, M2 and M2 aqua are not confirmed yet. Maybe there’s hope for E1, in addition E1 reached KitKat but can deserve lollipop too.Sincerely SP is able to be revived because is hardware capable.

  • Luís Alberto Pérez

I haven’t try because I own a Z. But a friend of mine own a Z2 and he flash Lollipop and it’s very satisfied with the update. No battery drain and better performance. The only thing are the themes that don’t work properly.
Besides that, he his really happy.

  • kawawangpinas101

    How about z ultra???? Whenn???!

  • Paul Muad’Dib

Good answer. We still have the J series. :)

  • naru

Off topic but, did you know the Z4 tablet has Qualcomm quick charge 2.0? https://www.qualcomm.com/news/snapdragon/2015/03/04/sony-xperia-z4-tablet-setting-new-standard-tablet-design

  • lolzor logic
  • Vinicius Araujo

  • raju

    But not realese india

  • Paul Muad’Dib

E1 don’t deserve more than KitKat. It deserves Gingerbread 2.3

  • Amimanot

Old news… The Z1,2,3 and their variants already have Qualcomm quick charge 2.0. Its part of the snapdragon 800 series

  • Chan Kin Cheung

i see a lot of broken down E1 users crying on the street right there

  • Chan Kin Cheung

honestly no offence, but SP’s chance from directly jumping from 4.3 to 5.0 without 4.4 is roughly equivalent to you winning every lottery in the whole world on the same day, mexico have true democracy, and communist party get overthrown on the next day

  • Chan Kin Cheung

i think out of the Z series, Z1 was born on the wrong time,

  • Chan Kin Cheung

it is a bit more complicated for z ultra, cause sony has to tweak most of the UI to fit nicely in the monsterous screen

  • kawawangpinas101

    Did they release it already?

  • Alexsandro Peres

Corrigindo: Sim, ocorreu a confirmação.

  • Allen Dunphy

The same news with C3 but…it got nothing now.

  • Chan Kin Cheung

one thing is for sure….that is the earliest oppotunity for C3 and T2U update to lolipop will come by at least two months after z series got its share of updates

  • Fadi Obaya

Hopes Z ultra gets it today.

u did gud bcs i heard many bad reviews who purchased from online.
many claims that sony’s after sell service bad in india..
is it true?what do u think?

  • RamaKrishna

I previously purchased and used Xperia mini(X10i),XS,XZ,XT2,XZU here in India. I never had a problem with the service provided here. I am quite happy for the provided service by sony. Only bad thing is re-sale value for sony phones is very very low.

  • Kaostheory

Yup glad we didn’t get 5.0

  • timenow

well,if u go to flipkart or any online shopping site,u’ll see many bad reviews scattered on any sony phones

some claims they charged half the price of their phone to repair
some claims sony offering them new one with some discount by exchanging their old one etc.etc.

now i hav fear bcs now a days unlike samsung phones u can’t remove battery part of most sony phones
so if ur battery is dead u hav to give it to the servce center and they may charge half the price..
is it happening only in india?or any other country too?

  • mukul verma

if you purchase from non-authorize online seller, sony will not give warranty.

    authorize seller list-click on link

    http://www.sonymobile.com/in/shop/

here you’ll see respective online seller.

  • mukul verma

it’ll work fine after software repair. if you got again this, better be replace your handset.

as of now what i think you’ll not get problem.

  • Abdul Ghani

    http://mobile-leaks.blogspot.com/2015/03/no-new-curved-sensor-for-sony-xperia-z4.html

    quote from mobile links

Several months ago Sony presented a new curved sensor with better sensitivity and overal image quality. It was tipped that the sensor will be found in the Sony Xperia Z4, but the latest news say NOT. The camera sensor will be the IMX230 which has a phase detection and is a little bit improved over the sensor in Sony Xperia Z3, so it’s only a little step forward. Anyways sony should really focus on imrpoving their camera software algorithm too which is the worst among others (like Samsung and Apple).

WDF is wrong with sony man… y in the fucking world cant u get the updates quick as others… i hav z3 but still on kitkat..
every other brand had lolipop now ….

  • i love my Xperia T2 Ultra

  • RamaKrishna

Yes,I heard that’s happening ! plus flipkart or any online service is not authorized by sony to purchase in india cuz all the online sellers are selling products from other countries for lesser price ! so,obviously warranty is not applied to those people and thus problem arises between sony and customer.People think sony is cheating on them but people have no proper enlightment here . All they do goto any given online service(irrespective of where the device is from plus other bill related details) they simply purchase the device and blame sony in the end..
I have seen many people use their device under water with flaps open and go ask for warranty from the service centre.Obviously service centre will not give warranty since flaps are open,Thus people will keep on blaming sony..

  • RamaKrishna

Even I thought the same but still the problem is there..
I gotta ask for a replacement asap

  • Chan Kin Cheung

ok as far as I understand it, this comment is either a valid question, in which i would like to ask which component is WDF? or a whining, in which you have your freedom to whine. I won’t stop you or curse at you.

  • Chan Kin Cheung

then get angry! we need Hulk (in case you are doctor Bruce Banner) to push Sony up a bit. We just need that extra muscle power. Geez LOL :))

  • timenow

    Ya that’s true..

But if sony doesn’t give warrenty on online selling then why are they selling?why sony isn’t stopping it?
Many customers who owned sony devices before are frustrated by sony’s after sell service and they had no option but to paid half-more for repair or throw it to the garbage

So some of them are now happy with samsung bcs samsung provide very good after sell service in india
It’s a shame that one of the world best known brand sony doesn’t care for their valuable customers..

Now the thing is i’m a owner of two best sony devices in this era,z1c nd z3c.And i want to use them for at least 3-5 yrs
But sony’s after sell service fear me everytime when i look upon those reviews

Even though i bought them from authorized sony center but still i doubt they’ll care…

i wish i had bought samsung instead but it’s too late now

  • Chan Kin Cheung

you are right. My friends always say i have the best camera quality phone among theirs, yet my pictures are just par with them.

  • RamaKrishna

Lol, you kidding me ryt ? Sony may not be the best for after sale care but I’m pretty sure how well sammy’s gonna care for its customers :P :D cuz I’ve seen couple of my friends at the sammy service centre and I know what happens in there..
people take time to write S*** about sony only on some website..They wont mention their drawbacks with sammy or any other manufacturer..
In my POV sony is best but it should give faster updates n stuff + far more more more better service compared to any other manufacturer..
and yeah sony should contain online sales of its devices if it is not providing warranty…

  • Pingback: Lollipop Update For Sony Xperia T2 Ultra Could Arrive Soon()

    Maybe u r right

Also i noticed that sony’s online support is pretty gud compared to local
So far i havn’t got any fault of these devices and happy with it

now i’m thinking if my battery gone dead after the warranty period then how much will it cost to change the battery?
    do u hav any information?

  • Abir Karmakar

Why my Xperia t3 doesn’t get Lollipop update?

  • Chan Kin Cheung

because you didn’t pay enough to deserve it/your device is not so popular/ updating is a lost business because cost for testing and development > profit, which may be the main reason. Of course no one can be sure whether or not t3 will eventually get updated, but at least explains why t3 is not Sony;s priority

  • Pingback: Lollipop update per Sony Xperia T2 Ultra ottine la certificazione - eArts()

  • RamaKrishna

Finally I have got my XZ3 replaced :)))
and coming to the questions you’ve asked — If the product is under warranty, the product may be replaced based up on the problem caused. For devices without warranty, the product may be replaced where customer has to pay half the price of the product’s cost(right now in the market).Hope this information helps.cheers :)

  • timenow

    So it’s true then
But why should i pay half price for only replacing battery???
At least samsung is doing better job in this segment bcs most of their phone comes with removable battery..

  • RamaKrishna

    yep may be..
All sony’s flagship devices are as such..what can we do about it?
I also think a device can work about two – three years (proper use).then obviously we can get a new device ;-)

  • timenow

Then what about the working device that we already hav??
Should we need to throw it to the garbage after 3yrs and buy a new???
Is this a part of sony’s marketing strategy??

  • RamaKrishna

    You Win :P :D

  • timenow

It doesn’t matter wheather i win or not
Thing is,i’ll get the consequence for buying sony’s smartphone later
