Firefox OS releasedThe FXP (FreeXperia) team of developers have worked wonders with Sony Xperia devices for a number of years now. If you like tinkering with your devices and you’re bored with Android custom ROMs then you might want to try Firefox OS. The FXP team worked in collaboration with Mozilla to support several Sony Xperia devices in Mozilla’s repos.

Firefox OS is a fast and lightweight operating system that FXP says should work extremely efficiently on current hardware. FXP has released Firefox OS builds for the following devices: Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia T2 Ultra and Xperia E3. Firefox OS Nightly’s for these devices can be downloaded here.

The good news is that even though FXP are releasing new builds, it is also enabling OTA updates on all devices. Therefore updates will be automatically pushed to you every week. It is worth noting that the current builds do not feature any Firefox OS branding as Mozilla has been quite precious over the use of its brand and logos in any AOSP ROM. Therefore, FXP is using the “Foxfooding” logo for now. If you want to find out more details, click the source link below.

Silly idea: Firefox OS should be like a ‘Super’ Stamina mode. A mixture of the normal UI and minimal Ultra stamina mode. Fast, usable but frugal.

Oh, another thing, the OTA updates aren’t what you think they are, only core Firefox updates, doesn’t mean that the libs (that are moded by the devs) would be updated (at least I think that’s the case).

“These will receive OTA updates for the Gecko/Gaia parts of Firefox OS. For a full system update you will need to download the new set of system images and reflash manually.”

doesn’t make much sense to release it for the flagship series.
Firefox OS is supposed to be very lightweight, aimed at the lower end of hardware (mainly in developing countries). From that perspective, it makes more sense to release those images either for the budget phones (E series) or for the older generation phones that no longer get android updates (are stuck in kitkat or even older).

That’s why we have xda to help us out. I am running stock rooted odex 5.1.1 on Xperia Z with unlocked bootloader and Nut’s Dual recovery and I have both Bionz and BE2 working like a charm. I even replaced BE2 with Z3’s BE3 (X-Reality) with Vivid-Color mode and it works too. And I have never backed up my DRM keys since I unlocked the device’s bootloader from day 2 I got it in my hands back in 12th of March 2013, when backing up the TA Partition along with the DRM that keeps camera’s and display’s enhancements working, wasn’t even available! Do your research and you’ll see that there is nothing a Sony Xperia smartphone cannot overcome. ;)
