Sony UCH10 Quick Charge Review_1Sony Mobile has a number of products that support the Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 standard. The advantage of this technology is super-speedy charging when using your device with a certified Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 charger. Sony has its own charger in the market called the Quick Charger UCH10.

Sony Mobile claims that a 10 minute charge using the UCH10 Quick Charger will give enough juice for 5.5 hours of usage for a phone. Equally, a 45 minute charge will ensure your phone lasts all day. For an Xperia Tablet, Sony says that a 30 minute charge is good enough for 3 hours of video playback time. Sounds impressive and thanks to Mobile Fun we were able to test these claims. Mobile Fun has the charger in stock for £19.99 and deliver worldwide. Read on for our impressions.

Sony UCH10 Quick Charge Review_1

Any charger that is Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 certified will be able to power any device that supports the Quick Charge 2.0 standard. Therefore, this Sony UCH10 charger can be used with other devices and is also compatible with Samsung Adaptive Fast Charging technology.

Inside the box, you will find the UCH10 Quick Charger, UCB11 USB Cable and leaflet with the warranty information.

Sony UCH10 Quick Charge Review_3

The UCH10 Quick Charger looks very similar to the EP880 or EP800. It is a lightweight product (45 grams) and reasonably small too (dimensions: 39 × 22 × 55 mm). In terms of output, the UCH10 is capable of 1800mA at 5V.

Sony’s user guide suggests that the Quick Charger UCH10 should only be used with the included UCB11 cable. For a list of compatible Xperia devices, check out the list at the end of this review.

Testing and Results

To test how fast the Sony UCH10 Quick Charger can charge a device, we used a Sony Xperia Z3 Compact and noted how quickly it would charge the device at various intervals. We ran the test three times and used the average numbers that you can see in the chart below.

The results show that the UCH10 charges the device at slightly higher than 1 percentage battery point in each minute. This compares favourably against the Sony EP880 charger (rated at 1.5mA at 5V), with the UCH10 being at least 50% faster across each time interval.

We’re not sure a 10 minute charge would really last 5.5 hours as Sony claims. For us, it only delivered a 13% charge during that time. Obviously, it depends on how you would use your phone during that time – if left on standby it could last that long but we still feel that is optimistic. We also tested how long it would take to charge the Xperia Z4 Tablet during one run and it took just shy of two and a half hours, a respectable performance.

Therefore, the Sony UCH10 Quick Charger broadly appears to live up to its claims. If you own one of the compatible devices listed below, the UCH10 is a worthy investment, especially if like to charge your device during the day, rather than leave it to charge overnight. Mobile Fun sell the Sony UCH10 Quick Charger for £19.99 and can deliver worldwide.

Does the device (Z3C) have to be switched off when charging in order for Quick Charge 2.0 to process?

  • Me

No, Quick Charge will work fine with the phone switched on (but obviously will drain a small amount of power to stay on)

  • Itsarapong Intoum

I use this with my Z5 and I love it.

Now I’m curious will the quick charge work with DK52 charging dock ?

  • Mohamed adel ali

so If I use it with my Z1 will not work as fast charger
    (sorry for my English )

Are you charging the device from 0%?

  • Itsarapong Intoum

    Yes correct

  • Battal

People now’re using C type usb and Sony still out of date, same as with dual flash feature which’s in every flagship now, and same as it was when every flagship used fingerprint sensor Sony was the last company to add that feature,
also same as with 32GB storage sony was always using 16GB until last flagship & The LCD display etc,

ALWAYS Late in adding Features and they wondering why their sales is shrinking?
Move your ass Sony, we are not in the 70s !

  • deekbee

USB type C is not particularly widespread.

Dual flash is of minimal benefit – it would be preferable to use xenon (for stills) and LED (for video).

My only issue with Sony these days is their camera post processing (which is really not very good).

  • ChilliPSco

That is correct. The Xperia Z1 does not support quick charge. Just the Xperia devices listed above (and now below).

    Xperia Z5
    Xperia Z5 Compact

get out of the xperiablog..go to ur shamesung ass and suck it!!!

  • Paul

Is there a Japanese/North American 110V version of the UCH10? I’m curious what Sony is bundling with the Z5 in Canada as Bell is carrying the phone.

  • nfs2010

Yep, get one from a Taiwanese seller on eBay like I did. In general, Taiwanese & US charger pins are identical.

  • Paul

Thank you for the information. I’ll definitely look into the eBay option.

  • Battal

Galaxy Note 5 (At leas they have one), Even though i don’t like that company for a lot of reasons,
Sony’s released three flagships at once and nothing different except the screen size !
You call that a feature ? you buy it .

  • Battal

i piss on Samsung ass and you may lick it .

  • Battal

My point is that Sony is always left it self behind For No reasons,
For Xenon it need a capacitor which’s gonna make the device more thick as Nokia 1020 is, Even though at leas Nokia Try something special, but Sony doesn’t, just Recopy it’s Xperia Z over and over again, as for the camera it’s always sucks compared to other flagships, which’s a bizarre thing for a company competing with Canon and Nikon in camera business !

  • rygarto

Since I cannot find the relevant information anywhere, can anyone actually try a non-japanese Z2 and confirm if there’s any measurable difference?
And yes, I’ve seen the list of supported phones, but one can never stop hoping.

the thinks you are comment are not important, dual flash? dont do the diference os notice for have it, dual flash un 13Mp or other flagships companys (16Mp and its to much) Sony 23Mp (21Mp and fast focus in M5 “mid to high range”) 12000 ISO, what are you sayin, Sony out to date? please, and USB type C, just two companys, google with nexus 6 and one plus one 2, htc and lg and others dosent have fingerprint sensor, Sony make the diference with the fingerprint sensor in a side of the phone, not in the front like THE REST, and wors great for both, right and left hand, in the fist time the use it, samsung last two or tree times, like apple, Sony use IPS panels like too much others, and you can use a micro sd card, wich is much more less expensive that buy a variant of 32gb or 64gb (and cant use a microsd card) like samsung, or apple, and Sony now use 32Gb standard memory for they phones

i finish with this, say everything you want to say (with no fundaments) i, and other persons who think, and SEE, still buy Sony, or whatever brand they want, and, people who want waste money with samsung or apple(same year over year) its they own decition

  • Why doesn’t Z3 have support for quick charge? Why only Japanese version?

  • marcyff2

neither HTC or LG do have fingerprint scanner, neither HTC or LG do have USB type C. Type C is a Qualcomn 820. So go shoot yourself in the face, and save us the trouble of having to listen to you.
