xperia-xz-taiwan-offer_thumbSony Mobile Taiwan opened pre-orders for the Xperia XZ yesterday and managed to sell out within 45 minutes. Sony was offering a special pre-order promotion where it included a number of freeibies including a DK60 USB Type-C Charging Dock, a 16GB USB Type-C OTG connector, a flip style leather case and a protective back cover. It is safe to say that this was enough of an incentive to see those pre-orders rolling in.

If you missed out on the offer, Sony will be including some extras for those that buy the phone on release in early October. This includes an additional year’s warranty (two years in total) and a Sony SBH70 Stereo Bluetooth Headset. The Xperia XZ will be sold at a recommended price point of NT$ 22,900 (£563, €655, $730) and launch early next month. The Xperia X Compact will launch this weekend in Taiwan for NT$ 14,900 (£366, €426, $475).

  • How many were the devices though? If only 10 handsets were available and preorders go out in 45 minutes, doesn’t make Sony a loved brand.

  • XperiaBlog

Very true – that info was not disclosed…

  • Ailan Hidaz

I would love to preorder but we don’t have any info of a release here in the middle east… Plus we never get preorder goodies so yay on Sony Taiwan.

  • Ailan Hidaz

I highly doubt they would allow preorders for a small amount of phones, at least a 1000 min

  • Hideg Jenő Péter

Where can get that case X cover? I really like that.

  • Dawud

The sales in the US would be a lot better if we got the international version sold in Taiwan with the fingerprint scanner.

  • theskig

So the phone I like less is the one who sells better?
Mmmm it used to be like this since many years… :)

  • Andreescu Daniel

This is good news, i will buy one for myself when will be available in my country

  • Oldtimer42

they arent offering the xz in canada so I wont have to worry about this

  • singh

Pre ordered mine today from Amazon for for £529 with the free Sony Bluetooth headphones, had play around with a xz in carphone warehouse, was impressed with the speed And performance, camera seemed better then my z5. like the new design, great build quality coupled with a snapdragon 820 this phone a beast. In the UK you get £150 headphones on pre orders compare this with the s7 or iPhone 7 both are roughly £600 sim free, so for a flagship the xz seems a good deal.

  • azzido

Preordered mine, since there is no tru black color (only brown) I picked forest blue :)
It says it should be available in 12 days, waiting :)

  • azzido

I am just wondering if there was already any tests for the stereo speakers.

I hope the speakers being used are not the same from X compact as these are getting very negative opinions over Internet as being silent and not producing good quality + providing vibrations :(

So far no FM Radio signs.
I wish they improved QA testing as well before packing the phones into boxes.
I know how it was with Z5 and its camera quality (so called Z5 system selling feature).

There is a comparison of the camera with iPhone 7 and XZ is much much worse, overexposured pics, however the video seems not to be true as we can see in XZ default settings was not used, someone adjusted it for test…:

  • azzido

iPhone sounds better, at least much louder :(
they need to fix it with soft, I know they’ve been doing it in the past.
The phone is getting attention, soft needs to be polished as well, this includes the camera soft, speakers, but screen callibration as well, would like to see the predefined presets for color saturation and more Sony devs involvement in notification bar, animations + customizations as it it now too stock to me. UI needs to have some Sony indicators, that will distinguish it from stock Android and other brands, would like to see the return of blinds, lock screen widgets, small apps as well.

Right… need to create a petition for small apps to return.
I was using it! (still I am on my Z5).

Also, where is stamina mode widget???

  • Bezels for the win !
  • Vincentius Phang

Not coming to my country (Indonesia) :(

  • Bruno

They all have the fingerprint scanner, just flash the ftf of another country and.. there you have it all the features in the US.

  • plekenut

beneran bro ga masuk indo? krn aturan TKDN ya?

  • RockStar2005

I’m sure you can still buy it from Amazon or any site that sells internationally, or even other Canadian sites. Just have to look around. I bought the int’l X Performance through Amazon for example a couple months ago. Forget the U.S. version with it’s no fingerprint scanner BS. lol

  • Vincentius Phang

apparently yes bro. You can check Sony Mobile’s Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand website and they all have XZ listed in the homepage. While for Indonesia they sticking with the Z5 :( yes I also heard it is due to the new 4G devices TDKN regulation.

  • Reza

Yes, sejak Xperia x series Sony mobile Indonesia udah ga jualan lagi tuh yg ada cuma z5 series, sad actually, I hope that Sony mobile Indonesia figured it out how to sell latest Xperias phone officially like it used to be.

  • kurakuradisco

then we only hoping online store to black-market-it…there’s many Batam-based store whos brought it from Hongkong or Singapore

  • Evang3los

Do I have to root it to do that?

  • Vincentius Phang

I can easily ask my office colleague in SG to buy it for me, he comes here often. My concern is with the warranty. I have experience with Z1 and Z3 Compact both are broken and I claimed the warranty successfully (albeit with troubles). So I want that local warranty. Also I hate SG power socket, its huge and a waste of space.

  • Mac

Are you sure about all having the hardware?

  • Mac

Why do they put just the X on it? Would’ve been much more appealing with a Z next to it.

  • Junior Rider

mee too but i guess it would be at least a thousand units for a pre-order.

  • If a million devices were preordered, I doubt Sony would wanna leave that detail out.

Trust me, they probably had only 500 devices on sale. And likely that was what got finished in 45 minutes. Ooh Sony

  • Eduardo Otero

Don’t need root to flash another firmware (tft)

  • hansip

altering the hardware is literally money consuming so they better off turning it off thru firmware. and yes that trick worked for Z5 before so no reason it shouldn’t work now too.

  • hansip

Sony musti ikut cara main seperti Apple. Apple sekarang sudah bisa masuk karena TKDN dibypass lewat software jadi ada komponen app yang buatan Indonesia juga.

  • Mac

    Yea that might be right.
I see, but what is the reason for not having the fingerprint sensor in US?

  • Khillo81

Hmmm, being a skeptic (sceptic, depending on which you think is the true English ;)), that thought immediately crossed my mind; however, producing much less than the demand means you are losing out just as much as producing much more than the demand. I doubt any company would want that, and so I guess they did a study and offered that amount (or a bit less) to the public. This is a great time to sell the phone as people are incentivized by the free bundled ware to buy the phone at full price rather than waiting for a few months until the price is slashed (sometimes by as much as 50%).

  • Yasir Fawad

ordered one at uae but was cancelled. out of stock. seems to have great demand.

  • hansip

Patent infringement is very much likely, due to silly US patent system. Even Apple designing their own plastic bag got patented there.

  • Hideg Jenő Péter

Yes, but X it means Xperia is more better.
They people will regconize the Xperia Device.
(excuse me, my english isn’t good at grammar)

  • Bruno

No root and no bootloader unlocked, and no guarantee lost

  • azzido

HTC10 still outshines in terms of speakers :)

X compact was banished too much in different areas. I predict sales will not be too high ;)

  • Mac

Actually I don’t really understand why they don’t use the full name of the device anywhere on it. When the design becomes similar on let’s say 5-10 different phones. It becomes a bit hard telling which is which. I’d prefer a Z next to the X just to clarify it’s a flagship and not just another Xperia midranger.
You don’t have to beg apologize, English is not my first language either ;P
