in Firmware, Xperia X series

Sony Mobile has begun to seed an update for the Xperia X Performance and Xperia XZ that moves the build number from 41.2.A.7.8 to version 41.2.A.7.35. The new update primarily updates the Android security patch to 1 July 2017 (from 1 June previously).

At the time of writing only a few regions (at most) have received the update for each variant, but expect a wider rollout in the coming days. Do let us know if you have updated, and noticed any other changes, in the comments below.

Update: This same firmware build is also rolling to the Xperia XZs and XZs Dual.

  • Sony is doing a great job in terms of software. I hope they talk about it at IFA as marketing along with some Android O news and plans

  • Moisés

    XZ1 e XZ1 Compacto chegarão com android 8.0.
Pelo visto XZ Premium será atualizado rapidamente.
Acredito que neste ritmo até outubro XZs, XZ e X Perf terão recebido também.

  • I just want to know about Z5

  • Marco

I have an US Xperia XZ(F8331). I am still on 7.0 with the March 1, 2017 security patch. Has anyone with the US XZ received any of the other security updates?

  • Juan Carlos

Did you try to flash your Xperia with a new firmware? you could use this one: http://www.xperiablog.net/forum/resources/xperia-xz_f8331_41-2-a-2-199_central-europe-1_generic.867/
If you flash it, it will be enabled your fingerprint scanner and you will get Android 7.1.1 with the latest security patch.

  • Marco

I have not flashed the XZ. I have done it with other Sony phones in the past since they were tied to a carrier. Since I bought the XZ unlocked I figured the updates/security patches would come more frequently, but looks like I was wrong. I will wait a bit more before flashing my XZ. Thanks for the response.

  • Moisés

In some places like Japan and Taiwan you see on tv a lot about Xperia.
    Famous people for advertisement..

In Brazil I have never seen anything on tv..

  • kurakuradisco

i barely see none in my home country Indonesia, but they strong in fan communities in here.

  • Emil Oskarsson

Sweden is also a place where Sony do advertise their Sony smartphones :)

  • Emil Oskarsson

Lost count on how many updates i have gotten for my X Performance this year, that is indeed a good thing :) Next phone will also be an Xperia for my part :D

  • kurakuradisco

did you try using Xperia Companion?

  • Blunt

    Great !
    Available in India too.

  • In some cases it seems it didn’t ahaha but I’m talking about the press conferences. Since last year, the new guy is taking them to new level.

Is this update fixing the RAM management ?

Just after booting up System is using 80% of the RAM, using the phone several minutes after the phone lags and struggle to do basic actions : opening the phone app, camera etc.

And I’m not even talking about facebook and other ram eating apps

  • Emil Oskarsson

I usually have about 850-1.1 GB free ram on my x performance. And I have 57 apps installed but I don’t have the ordinary Facebook app I use friendly for Facebook :) When the free ram goes below 600 MB for my part the phone has been on for about 150 hours and then it’s time for a reboot to free up all the used ram :p

  • Juan Carlos

Did you try a Factory Reset?

  • Meagan Hall

I’m hoping it does. I just installed the update (for xz) because currently (since June’s update) I have to turn off my at least twice a day because it lags and crashes so much and sometimes I don’t even receive phone calls.. it’s very frustrating at the moment. Almost ready to contact Sony :(.

  • Gambi

Contacted @SonyXperiaFr on twitter and they said they forwarded the issue to the technical team. They don’t know if 41.2.A.7.35 fixes the RAM problems

  • Meagan Hall

Thanks :) good to know. We shall see then.

  • JC

I can confirm there’s 0 promotion here in Mexico.

  • Juan Carlos

Hey it’s just an option, it’s up to you to do it or not.

  • Lovo Lovos

i think they made the camera app working properly again. it really had problems like opening the in built camera app leads to a black screen with the message “unable to detect sd card”…out of 10 times this message appears 3 times. there was no solution for this; not formatting in laptop, in phone, recently xperia companion with a phone repair. but now, since the update came, i didnt notice any problems with the camera.

  • Tony D’Amato

My British Xperia XZ F8331 got the update this morning. It’s the earliest I’ve gotten it. Great job Sony!

  • Good choice! Since beginning the X series something changed and Sony started giving as more updates than any other manufacturer :)

  • As it’s security it may mean that Twitter is not safe as it should be and that’s not Sony/Google problem, but Twitters.
Try different client. If it work than You have an answer that their app is a waste, not an app for social service.

  • Tony D’Amato

Sometime I’ve found that if you un-install the app, power cycle the phone and re-install the app it’ll suddenly start working again. Worth a shot…

  • Flash nonUS firmware. That way not only will You get faster updates, but the fingerprint scanner will start working :)

  • VanHoff

I received it for my X Performance last night, I live In Colombia.

  • washinma2424

I can confirm there’s 0 promotion in the US, but I did go into a Best buy and behold! A half done display for the Xperia XZ premium, and XZs and XA1 only the XZ premium was on display though. lol I asked the worker if the other phones were going to be displayed he said he did not know and probably not. SMDH

  • washinma2424

I have the US Xperia XZ, I received 7.1 right before I flashed my phone to the “Central European” rom so I could enable my finger print sensor.

  • Abdul Mutahher

    Very righteous answer!
also it is a good joke.
Yes, why to reset customization because of a tiny bird app.

  • Gcrack

Patch for the XZP also started rolling out.

  • Moisés

Just read on Sumahoinfo that IFA duo will be available earlier than XZ and Xc were.
For Docomo carrier they may arrive in middle september.
In Europe it might be late september, early october…

    Sony’s press is August 31….

  • Yali AA

    Haven’t had any update!!
Got the same fucking April security release… with 45.0.A.1.229, btw 45.0.A.7.90 is the newest!

  • Juan Carlos

You guys are so sensitive to my comment!!

  • SonyMan

They have been treating Z5 series quite accordingly. Sony is almost the boss on Android updating and that changed since Nougat, which came from Google last August. In hardly a year from official announcement Sony has EVERY SINGLE device on its lineup on Nougat. And that includes 2015’s March and September announcements Z4/Z4 tablet/Z5/Z5c/Z5p (7.1.1 june), mids have XA/XAU (7.0 May), XA1/XA1U (7.0 June) and X,XC,XP,XZ (7.1.1 July)!!! That’s almost godlike!

  • cocorico

Done in France for my Xperia XZ :D

  • True, but it seems that Z5/Z3+ are treated that way since X series came out.
Didn’t like the change from Z to X, but it happen to be something good :)

  • Gambi

Updated this morning, so far RAM management is better, no lags.
System is using ~1GB of RAM

same here :) mine is still using 2GB of RAM – any suggestions to get it down? :/ I’ve uninstalled facebook/messenger but still an insane amount of RAM being used but at least my phone is back to functioning properly again!

  • Heeyeon Ahn

My US XZ is still on Android 7.0!! Why am I not getting the latest updates??

  • Heeyeon Ahn

I’m in the same boat as you, still stuck on that 7.0 update.

  • Mac

Am I the only one noticing a battery-drowning issue with these last fw-versions? My XZ getting hotter than before in regular use, almost never playing games just apps like spotify, chrome, fb n messenger with, bt, wifi and gps.

  • Heeyeon Ahn

I had the same problem. I changed my wifi from the 5G version to the 2.4G version and it seems to have fixed it.

  • Mac

Well that’s an interesting thought, but thing is. It’s also like that when outside without WiFi.

  • Mac

Actually I’m a bit concerned about this many updates. Yeah it’s nice and all but from what I’ve learned about android it’s almost never you can have a phone more than a year before it starts to act strange and you have to do a factory reset because somehow a firmware update screwed up the phone.

  • Heeyeon Ahn

That sucks, hope you can fix it soon. For me, the battery was draining by about 30% overnight, but when I changed the WiFi band, it now only drops by about 5%

  • Emil Oskarsson

Sometimes you will have to do a clean install because sometimes updating from an older Android software to a newer can screw up the software somehow. Same thing when installing windows 10 from Windows 10 on a computer for example. Screwed up my pc so I had to do a new clean install :p Idk but there should be kinda the same thing with iOS devices. However on both my z4 tablet and x performance I have just installed newer software over the old one without problems so :) And you also mention that and Android device can start acting strange after a year’s usage, yes it’s true. But that happens with iOS devices aswell I think? Just clean the cachememory every now and then or do a clean install again if the problem remains xD

  • Mac

Seams like it’s another issue then, I never leave anything on during night, turn of WiFi, bt, 4g n all and charge the battery.

  • Mac

Well it seams like you missed my point, am not trying to talk sh!t about android or anything I’m just concerned.
I love my XZ and as much as it sometimes frustrates the hell out of me I couldn’t dream of having another brand in my hand.
Man, I haven’t even got win8 yet. Still running win7 on my 7 year old Dell laptop and got the opportunity to upgrade all the way to win10 but didn’t think it would be a great idea. Glad I didn’t.
Back to the tread tho, I always like new Android updates and happy we on the latest security patch but nowadays I prefer a bugfree software over the latest any day.

  • Emil Oskarsson

For me almost all the firmwares released for my x performance have been completely lag free. There was one firmware on marshmallow that caused a lot of sensors to stop working after a few minutes sometimes hours. Otherwise I am really pleased with the updates :)

  • Mac

That’s great man! So you never even notice redrawing homescreen and such?

  • Emil Oskarsson

Not what I can think of, but might have happened sometime xD

  • Mac

Lucky you, at least once every week for me.

  • Emil Oskarsson

Maybe you should try rebboting the phone more often then? To free up some RAM :)

  • Mac

Actually I’m the one rebooting like 3 times a week and do a hard reset like once a month. So I just can’t see where the problem is. Didn’t even notice a big difference in overall experience from Z3C.
    But still love it tho

  • Emil Oskarsson

Even hard reset it? Shit :s

  • Mac

Yup, dunno what I do wrong but it needs to be done quite often.

  • Brian Hunter

why dont the fix the camera overheating issues on the XZ
