in Rumours

We have seen a number of new Sony Xperia smartphone model numbers being outed recently through their user-agent profiles (UAProf’s). Well today we have seen the Sony H81XX (H8116, H8166) UAProf’s unveiled, which highlight that these new premium smartphones will come with a 4K display (2160 x 3840). Other features confirmed include Android Oreo and Bluetooth 5.0.

Another model number with 1080p display that has been revealed is the Sony H82XX (H8216, H8266, H8276, H8296) – all of the UAProfs are linked to below. Given the model number, this looks like another premium device that likely sits just below the H81XX. Excited?

    OLED please !

  • Itsarapong Intoum

Just too many model next year!

  • XZ2, XZ2 Compact and XZ2 Premium, Like with Z5 series?

  • Aiden M.

Surely all these phones popping up can’t be coming within just the first half of 2018 right? Maybe the ones we’ve seen and we have more info about are the ones coming in the first half, then the ones with only a model number and one spec come around IFA? Then again, I remember a long time ago back when the Z5 series had just came out, there were rumors of 5 new Xperia phones coming out around then, and it ended up being 3. Maybe it’s something like that? It’s unlike Sony to go THIS far. A lot of these might only be available in certain markets too

  • Yasir Fawad

So Sony is going mainstream with mobile 4K in 2018. Lets see what will be the new camera tech, that will differentiate them, as reports of Samsung Galaxy flagship with 1000 fps slow motion are also emerging. And I believe Sony will trump them in camera.

  • Genorok

The key for Sony and the US market will be if these devices (particularly the high end) come with VoLTE certification and bands for AT&T and T Mobile. Without it, they simply will just be another set of forgotten devices here in the US.

Working fingerprint scanners would help too (without playing the flashing games)

I do have to say I love the XZ1 compact and I wouldn’t own it if it didn’t have the VoLTE

  • Alfino Pranata

So, Sony will have 2 different device with 4K display such as H81xx and H85xx. Instead of make one with 2K display, they about to popularizing 4K display on mobile. Great move, Sony!

  • Phil Gym

8541 and 8116 are both with 4K. sounds fishy

  • Marinko Agic

    Sony will crush a thing.
It will be old and nothing new with new designe, and other will be all new but with old designe. This is Sony.

  • Marinko Agic

No.This is Sony. They sleep in own dreams.Nothing new will be,Galaxy will blow up again. And I hate this.

  • Szabó Béla

Well they themself said that with new serie, new design will come. When they made the first Z, it took samsung and the others 2-3-4 years to step up the design game alongside the build quality.
It’s about time for Sony to do a jump once again.

  • Itsarapong Intoum

    There’s no evidence for H85xx yet…

  • MrWalker1000

do you know which sony smartphones currently support volte? besides the xz1 or is taht the only sony so far.

  • KarFar

I hope move on from 5.2″ regular and 5.5″ premium.

Regular: 5.5″ same dimensions as XZ
    Premium: 5.7″ same as XZ1

  • Ana Helušić

    Hardly

  • theskig

Even the “old” X supports volte

  • theskig

The good news is that they will be 16:9

  • David Hvatov

1080p could be enough. That’s stupid for 5-6 inches.

  • Night Guy

Time will come where 4k display is normal on smartphone.

  • Ryuzaki Raiga

wait until JDI announce OLED for smartphone

  • Keshav Burtony

I would rather sony opts for a qhd display for the standard flagship and use the 4k for the premium/plus model rather than sticking with the same fhd for years..

  • Jaissal S

I’ve never been quite sure with having a 4K screen on a small device. Compared to a TV that is. 2K would be cool. But still. I’m looking forward to seeing what’s new. Waiting patiently with my Z5.

  • 3_nity

    Nope!

  • 3_nity

When the FHD came, people said the same as you said. ;)

  • Rohan

We need small phones. 5.7 is too big. I prefer 5.2 over 5.5

  • Rohan

Volte is supported going back to Z3+ series. It’s your Carrier that needs to enable support too.

  • Alfino Pranata

The previous rumor about it has the specs leaked on someone’s computer display. who knows! http://www.xperiablog.net/2017/11/30/sony-h8541-spec-sheet-appears-could-this-be-the-next-xperia-flagship/

  • Alfino Pranata

They still refuse to implemented QHD on their phones for years instead making jump on 4K. So far, I have no complain about the quality itself but outdoor readability could’ve been better, tho. As long as they offer great battery endurance with those power hungry pixels screen, I don’t mind. But I wish they make jump on OLED too.

  • NinJy

Until the day you realize your photos looks fucking awesome on the 4K screen compared to 2K.

  • Zayed Kotayba

I guess the reason behind this is SONY is a music/movie/entertainment/gaming/photography company which make their decision of implementing 1440p screen make no sense because all the sections of the company I mentioned above jumped from 1080p to 4K (even the play station made that jump to 4K) also that’s why we didn’t see any 18:5 aspect ratio screen and SONY used the 16:9 because it make sense for their other products which all share the same aspect ratio and that’s make their products have a better experience for the average user and professional alike.

  • Zayed Kotayba

Not really, I like the extra crispness of the screen and the lack of pixels lol (you need to put it under microscope to barely see the pixels).
You need to see it by yourself to say that it totally worth it specially reading eBooks or web surfing!

  • Francis Troy Fabrigas

Doesn’t matter. People are only expecting a huge change from Sony, and that’s what they’re going to do anyway.

  • Francis Troy Fabrigas

You hate progress on technology? Then stop using one to comment here.

  • Francis Troy Fabrigas

5.5″ is close to 5.7″, so why bother increase it?
Besides, 5.2″ is fairly adequate for a standard flagship. The Premium is set to be the best of them all, so increasing the size of the standard flagship to make it nearly as large as the Premium will just make the Premium lineup’s purpose irrelevant.

There should always be some size separation among the 3 flagships; super small compact, medium flagship, and big phablet flagship.

  • Francis Troy Fabrigas

Just goes to show that Samsung is one of the biggest Sony fan. Almost everything Sony does, Samsung must also have something equivalent.

  • Itsarapong Intoum

I always look for uaprof, gfxbench before trust that it will be real heh heh.

  • Alfino Pranata

Previously it was known as G8541 and has been spotted on GFXBench last August but for some unknown reason it comes with two different size and screen resolution 6.2″ one with fhd and 12.3″ one with 4k. But it’s possible GFXBench messed up while calculating display-related info. https://www.androidheadlines.com/2017/08/sony-made-g8541-device-benchmarked-with-android-8-0-oreo.html

  • MrWalker1000

does the xz1 and XZp support volte?

  • Rohan

Yes. They do. But your Carrier might not support them on their network. What carrier are you with?

  • Francis Troy Fabrigas

Compared to Samsung and some Chinese OEMs, these are still very few.

  • Francis Troy Fabrigas

These phones are probably coming out in 2018, but not in just one exact event.

Xperia alpha naming sound very good.
Hope they really kill the competition with camera (F1.4, OIS, new app, new processing alghoritm, crystal glass lenses, 3x optical zoom, xenon flash + dual Led for flashlight) and no camera hump, they can do this but will they?

4K screen is something I am looking forward, for me it is standard now, tv, console, XZ Premium etc. It should be just brighter for better clarity outdoor. 16:9 is fine. Smaller bezels but not to small as well.

But design looks… Hmm similar to what we already saw so far.
I would rather expect innovation similar to Xperia Arc.

Still these are only hardware specs speculations. I wonder what they will do in terms of software. A bit excited about their new flagship but competition does not sleep. They need to push the limits, excel in every corner, innovate and have a good marketing to survive.

And this 12″. I hope for new tablet! Running windows 10 would preorder, but consider Android device as well.

    Wishing them all the best.

  • azzido

Sony I hope you will test your devices well! Please no distortion, no blur, no new issues :)

  • azzido

We should all start saving some money for next year :) :) :)

  • azzido

    1000fps in 1080p?
I wonder for how long hehe. Depends on stacked memory capacity heh.

  • azzido

    Please please xenon flash.
Then I will start using it again!
Since underpowered Led flashes I am mostly using it as torchlight :(

  • So0o

Please no… that back is from huawei… nonononono… sony is original

  • Thariq Mohammed
  • Itsarapong Intoum

    That’s good :)

  • MrWalker1000

    t-mobile.

  • Genorok

Well as everyone else says technically Sony’s phones back to the Z2 support VoLTE. For United States’ carrier support:
    Z1s T Mobile edition
    Z3 T Mobile edition
    Z3v Verizon
Z4v Verizon (but good luck, very few released and no updates)
    XZ1 compact (T Mobile VoLTE)

No US carriers support the XZ1 or XZ1p (I would have bought the XZ1 if it had)

  • BlahBlahBlah

Why are you posting 10 times in quick succession? Fuck off.

  • BlahBlahBlah

No, you need to have decent eyesight. I can easily make out the pixels on 1080p and even 2K.

  • BlahBlahBlah

“Crush a thing”. What language is that?

  • Rafal

Don’t let convince yourself that 4k is better than Full HD in 5 inches phone! Proven fact is that nobody can distinguish picture 4K and FHD on that size of screen. This is crazy marketing bullshit, and that is the cause none app uses this resolution. In addition – drains battery. Any other advantage?

  • Reddkliff11

My neighbor’s relative just bought new house in Hartman, and, what’s even more amazing is that he saved for it by working online for about 70 minutes daily, just by following certain set of instructions they provided there. When I asked how he did it, they gave me this page
