in Firmware, Xperia XZ series

Sony Mobile has released a new firmware update for the Xperia XZ Premium, moving the build number from 47.1.A.12.34 to version 47.1.A.12.75. This Android 8.0.0 update includes the 1 February 2018 Android security patches, which means that the handset is now patched with fixes for the ‘Meltdown’ and ‘Spectre’ CPU vulnerabilities.

At the time of writing, the update is only live on dual SIM variants, but availability should widen to the single SIM variant shortly. Let us know your impressions below if you’ve already upgraded.

Thanks Alaa, Lazaros_K, Moisés, Mortael!

  • Ajmal

    Great work sony

  • Prince Mensah

Is there any major difference between Nougat and Oreo or Sony’s UI is just stale??

  • Paolo

What about double tap to wake/sleep :(

  • Talos the Robot

    Great news! Thanks Sony!

Now the should focus on the Android 8.1. Maybe it will be released first on the upcoming devices and the older devices will follow.

  • Ellio74

That seems to be definitely gone, sadly!
It looks like they want us to use the fingerprint reader every time…

  • azzido

Does it means the processor is slower like Intel after patching?

  • azzido

It’s still the same old boring ui…

  • mrninko

does it fix issue with permanently showing gps icon in status bar?

  • Thariq Mohammed

Swipe up now available for XA2 series , I don’t know about XZP

  • Thariq Mohammed

Join Xperia home beta, they improved the UI and one of the best launcher in the Android.

  • Z Rang

    No I still have it

  • Paul M

Are you sure this patch from Sony includes the Spectre and Meltdown patches?
I can’t see a mention of CVE-2017-5715 in the Feb security bulletin as being fixed.

  • Paul M
  • Emil Oskarsson

Settings > screen > system icons and disable GPS icon :)

  • Lam Mbang

I’m waiting for PlayMemories mobile oreo support…

  • mrninko

Solution is to fix it, not hide it!

  • Actman

Absolutely true. eg. Still yet to receive Oreo: Manually flash it with other region – Crap!

  • Blasse

They are fixed. They were part of 2018-01-05
security patch level (CVE-2017-13218). Devices that use the 2018-02-01 security patch level must include all issues
associated with that security patch level, as well as fixes for all issues
    reported in previous security bulletins.

  • RockStar2005

    Lame!

  • Paul M

    ah, I see, thanks.

  • Richard Brutski

It seems to be back on my X compact…

  • Paolo

    Won’t give up the hope

  • Didn’t it have it on 7.x? I believe that devices which had DT2W before are left with it.

  • Would love to know about it too

  • Richard Brutski

    No it never worked.

  • tristi lumina

It’s there if you use latest Xperia Home. My XZP use it and works very well

  • tristi lumina

No it doesn’t. I even always turn on stamina (at performance preferred) and the performance still great, flawlessly like previous build

  • Emil Oskarsson

Still a work around for the time being :D

  • Anirban Banerjee

No. Reappeared about 10 hrs post update reboot.

  • Anirban Banerjee

Z5 Premium Dual had it. Gone in XZ Premium.

  • Quentin Grs

It has always worked on X compact.

  • Ama

    Xz1 compact also received update

  • Michael Adu-Yeboah

had it not been the issue that all other phones don’t attract me like xperias , I would not have bought another xperia , please pacify Xperia Z5 users one last time with an update .

  • JC

    Gone forever.

  • Manu

And the battery drain is also similiar to what it has been before the update?

  • Claudio

I confirmed its true. I already received on xz1 compact

  • Kitsilano69852

version 32.4.A.1.54. not available for any Z5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • NinJy

I wonder if they will skip the update from last month for regions who still wait for it.

  • Eduardo Otero

That update rolled out a couple months ago, it is Android 7.1.1 and September or October security patch

  • Pablo Nuñez

can someone explain me what new update do ?
and after the update when slice my finger to the screen to open the apps is not working anymore now i have to press the home botton :/

  • Stergios Papoutsoglou

For those interested the performance impact is there but it’s negligible .
In antutu 7.0.4 before the update was 203109 and after it was 202787 and with geekbench 4 before the update I had single core 1925, multicore 6289 and after the update I have single core 1915, multi core 2537

  • LazAndKor

With the new update the clock app icon also changed and we got a new Xperia Home update with new ui for app shortcuts and different (but buggy) swipe up for app tray animation (but it’s fixed on a newer version of Xperia home beta) . 11.2.A.0.6

  • Kitsilano69852

BS..not true. Not every Z5 never received 32.4.A.1.54. This website is full of BS.

  • Eduardo Otero

Sorry I didn’t read that “not” and yes, sadly many Xperias never received updates but by using Flashtool you can change the region of your Z5 and then get the update, anyway that is surely the last update Z5 series would get.

  • AllanKafka

Thank you. Differences in results look like statistical error, except for multicore performance. Did it really drop to less than half or is there a typo?

  • Stergios Papoutsoglou

Whoops my bad. It was indeed a typo and fixed it
Thank you for pointing it out.

  • tristi lumina

yes it’s same. Even on average or light use = SoT just 6 hours in details 2 hours play Fate Grand/Order game and the rest use social media such as whatsapp, instagram, twitter, and youtube, i can reach 2 days. Stamina mode always on with Performance Preferred level

  • AllanKafka

Thank you for sharing the benchmark results! :)

  • azzido

    Yes, battery drain the same

  • Paul

It is fixed on my Customized UK.

  • Alkie Quin

Press and hold a blank space on your home screen, then select “Settings” when the options appear at the bottom. You can then switch it back on using the setting “Hide Apps Icon”.
