Sony Ericsson announced back in January that Facebook would be deeply integrated into all of its new Xperia handsets. We were somewhat surprised then that there was no mention of this on the launch of the new handsets. However, Sony Ericsson has now officially announced “Facebook inside Xperia”. This feature basically integrates a single sign-on for Facebook across the whole handset.
As well as the single sign-on, you’ll also be able to sync all of your Facebook contacts into the phone book, there’ll also be an option to sync your calendar to Facebook to keep you notified about events and birthdays. This will also extend into the media side, with a media discovery widget that will automatically show which music and videos friends have recommended on their Facebook wall. You will also be able to ‘like’ music tracks, from which a post will be posted onto your Facebook wall.
All of this sounds great if you love Facebook, but it’s great to know that even if you detest Facebook, specific features of this integration can be turned off. An update will hit the Xperia arc and PLAY during Q2 to enable this new feature. The recently announced Xperia mini and Xperia mini pro will see this on launch in Q3.
