Xperia arc landing in the US without carrier support in August

It looks like the Sony Ericsson Xperia arc will not get any US carrier support as the company has confirmed that the handset will be launching sim-free across a number of retailers at the beginning of August. There is no mention of what frequency bands the handset will support, however we suspect this will be aimed at AT&T and T-Mobile customers.

We already thought the handset was selling at the Sony Store for $599.99 in Midnight Blue colour, however it looks like that link now takes you to a pre-order page. The Misty Silver colour option will be available at Amazon.com, Newegg.com, and Buy.com for a similar price. It’s a shame that no carrier has picked up the handset, but it shows how cutthroat the market has become and that most carriers appear to be pushing dual-core smartphones at this price point.
