Japan Display Inc (JDI) has announced that its 5.46-inch LCD module with wide Quad HD (WQHD) resolution will start to ship in April 2014. The display has a resolution of 1,440 x 2,560 pixels, resulting in a super-impressive 538 PPI. If this same panel had a FHD display, it would still have a very good pixel density of 401 PPI – we do wonder whether you’d be able to tell the difference between the displays.
This display uses JDI’s enhanced low-temperature poly-silicon (LTPS) technology, which helps to deliver low power consumption. JDI plans to release a number of WQHD products in 2014, if you remember back to October 2013, JDI announced the development of 5.4-inch and 6.2-inch WQHD displays. There is every chance that we could see one of these being used in a Sony Xperia device in 2014.
