We have previously come across the Sony D22XX (D2202, D2212, D2203) model, which appeared on the Indonesian Postel site. Little is known about this handset, apart from the model numbering suggesting it will sit in between the Xperia E1 and Xperia M2 in terms of positioning. However, an entry on the GFXBench benchmark has given an insight into the specifications.
The benchmark suggests that this will be a 6.1-inch FWVGA (480 x 854) handset with 1.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 (MSM8926) chipset and Adreno 305 graphics. Other specs include 1GB RAM, 4GB internal storage (microSD support is likely), 5MP rear camera and a VGA front-facing camera.
In the past, we’ve always assumed entry-level Xperia’s meant a smaller handset. However, Sony is going for the budget phablet market with the Sony D22XX and its 6+ inch display and very low 161 PPI pixel density. This phone may only appear in select Asian markets as a way to compete against some of the big Chinese manufacturers. We’ll bring you more news as we have it.
Thanks Ben!
