Sony Mobile is not accessorising the flagship Xperia S with a cradle of its own. The handset will work with the LiveDock USB docking station released last year but this does not have the HDMI capabilities seen in the SmartDock that is headed to the Xperia ion and Xperia P. Part of the problem is that the Xperia S USB and HDMI ports are on opposite sides of the phone.
We now have a third-party manufacturer, Kidigi, who is releasing a dock of its own. This Cover-Mate Desktop cradle is also restricted to USB only (no HDMI unfortunately), but it looks to be tailored to the Xperia S rather than the one-size-fits-all LiveDock. Kidigi claims you can use this cradle even whilst your Xperia S is wearing a case. We’re not too sure how well it would fit though given the USB port cover flap. It looks to be reasonably suave with its glossy black finish and it’s cheaper than the LiveDock, so you may want to put this on your wish list. Expansys is currently listing this for £16.99 due on 8 April 2012.
