Sony SBH80 Stereo Bluetooth Headset_3Sony finally unveiled the SBH80 Stereo Bluetooth Headset at CES, which we first caught wind of back in September 2013. This headset is different to all of the others in Sony’s ‘SBH’ range in that it has a neckband-style design, which Sony says offers “optimal wearability”. The unit is also splash-proof so you do not need to worry if it rains.

The SBH80 is a lightweight headset at 15.8 grams and consists of a neckband with controls tracking each ear piece. These controls allow you to navigate your music as well as hands-free calling. The SBH80 also has double microphones so your caller will always hear you, no matter which way your head is turned. The main unit that sits on the neck will vibrate discreetly when a message arrives.

The headset supports Bluetooth 3.0, NFC for easy pairing, aptX audio enhancement, multipoint connectivity and HD Voice. The headset has a 115mAh battery, good for 8 hours of talk time according to Sony – it can be easily charged via micro USB.

The Sony SBH80 Stereo Bluetooth Headset is expected to arrive in March 2014 according to Clove, who have the accessory on pre-order for £74.99.

Whatever Sony make they make it in Class <3

I don’t like neckband headphones. It’s SO easy to be robbed from behind. It might not be such a problem in some countries, but here in Brazil, you’re asking for trouble.

  • Camilo Uribe

    I’m still prerering SBH52

Oh my sweet god, I have waited for this so freaking long.. YES! That’s exactly what I need and it’s so beautiful..
    /me dying to have it!

  • lander

But the headphones can’t be replaced…….

  • Tech Gospel

Hide it under your collar (or under your shirt)

  • Tech Gospel

Don’t want it to change the headphones. If you want to change the headphones, Sony has at least 4 other SBH models that allow that. I’m using the older MW600 with my AKGs… but I’d like a set that’s similar to the Jaybirds Bluebuds X but not at that price.

Nice, but hey! AptX on BT 3.0?

  • Micro

    why not?

  • Mac

I just thought it was a BT 4.0 exclusive. But if it ain’t then it’s cool. Wish all new BT devices had BT 4.0 now tho..

  • Micro

indeed.. and I wish also all of them were class 1 :/ (at least wider range at all)
BTW: I noticed in that description of the SBH80 that it’s possible to connect even more than two devices to it, I love my multipoint SBH20 but it allows only two sources in the same time. Am I wrong or about March my dreams could come true? O_O

  • Mac

Oh yeah that would be nice as well.
    Maybe, actually I don’t know.
But multipoint is nice indeed. Oh n, the SBH50 doesn’t have aptX right?
I have the mw600 and mw1 but would like a aptX one with NFC and BT4.0.

  • Micro

I meant sbh20 actually (sorry, my bad), but no, 20 doesn’t have it. Sad.. because the headphones that came with that set could really use aptX, they are really good as for handsfree set.

  • Mac

Okay, yeah I really hope the headphones are better than my mw1 headphones, not that very smart since all they do is pop out of the ears in every tiny little movement. But I almost always use over-ear headphones anyway

Finally! As long as Sony gets this right, this things’ gonna be one helluva wireless headset! Imagine all the possibilities you can do compared to a wired or even other bluetooth headsets! :D

  • Raj Singh

On which set of headphones can you actually replace the headphones?

  • rykellim

Why is it not Bluetooth 4.0/4.1? I will not be buying it then unfortunately.

  • JIN

I sold mine sbh52 only owned themem for 7 days they are brilliant but the sound quality is very limted no aptX audio enhancement profile support the bass is no where near deep on sbh52 :( So today I placed a order for the Sony SBH80 should be hear Friday can’t wait to connect them to my Xperia Tablet Z SGP321 and my Octa Core LTE GALAXY S4 both devices support aptX profiles roll on Friday :)

  • JIN

What devices do you own that support Bluetooth 4.0 ?????

  • Kim Westby

Bad Sony, representing a driver without seatbelt – I know they like to show the product ofc, but me as a professional driver would also like to see how it looks with the belt on and if the cable might interfere with the belt!

  • Arian Rivers

I know its late. but how is it now? works great with Z?
