in Rumours, Xperia M2

Sony-logoA new Sony Xperia with model number D2403 has leaked through GFXBench. The benchmark reveals a number of specifications including a 4.4-inch qHD (540 x 960) display and the inclusion of a 1.2GHz quad-core processor and Adreno 305 graphics. The likelihood is that the D2403 runs the same chipset as the Xperia M2 i.e. the Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 MSM8926 chipset.

The Sony D2403 was being tested on Android 4.4.2 so it is likely it would launch with KitKat. Other features leaked by the benchmark include 1GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, a 8MP rear camera and VGA front-facing camera.

What we find very interesting (if the above specs turn out to be true) is the level of internal storage in what looks like will be a sub mid-range model. Typically the models at the lower end of the range have seen paltry levels of internal storage – look at last year’s Xperia C as an example.

Given the restrictions on SD cards within Android KitKat, maybe Sony should be realising that it needs to offer higher levels of internal storage. It could also mean that flagship models will start to offer 32GB internal storage as a minimum.
