TrackID Beta_2There is a slow trickle of what Sony has in store for its apps as it moves to Android 5.0 Lollipop. Some slight hints were seen in the recent Sketch update and now we get a better idea in the TrackID Beta (4.1.B.0.5), which has been given a new material design inspired makeover.

Check out some of the screenshots below, showing flat graphical assets being used across many screens. We are likely to see other Sony apps being updated over the coming weeks.

    Is there any apk ?

  • Enzo Jarata

I’m so excited on how Sony will incorporate the Material design on its Android 5.0 Lollipop update on Xperia devices. Good job, SONY! :D

  • Vuyo Ncube

Trademark Xperia graduating colours AND Material Design? Well done!

  • Kiwison

I hope there will be no leaks until the official release..I’m very curious about what is going to happen and I don’t want any leaks to ruin it

  • ShinOrochiX

Looks horrible, prefer the current look, oh well will just have to get used to it. I mean what’s up with the diamond and the bland background.

  • Igor Iceberg

  • Sam Albalushi

  • Ediz I

Thanks I will try it :)

  • Cris de Oliveira

So excited to see lollipop ui of sony *-* Hope it gets awesome!

  • Adrian Dela Cruz

Sony always makes difference.. They are Expert in design! and colors!

  • Adrian Dela Cruz

Sony always make difference… They are expert in design & colors.. they make GOOGLE ANDROID’s MATERIAL DESIGN “BETTER”.

  • 424

Doesn’t look too Material, more like some transient Jelly Bean. Gradients and icon app on top left are present, which are not along with Material Design guidelines.
But who said this is a bad thing?

  • cs098

Material with a hint of timescape, looks better than both. Has a bit if that classic look without looking too outdated like the current version.

  • Marlish

People say that the year 2015 is Apple domination
But i feel that Sony is going to change that.
Cant wait for Lollipop to arrive on Sony.

  • R. Vesker

Android is open and freedom am I right? So why Sony gotta follow Google every steps or Sony ran out of idea? Sony should create their own unique style, Material design is good but looks too cheap, too boring, it doesn’t deserve the XPERIA image at all. It’s better if Xperia devices will have futuristic classy UI, something like the Aero Glass Transparency style

  • Shehab Skull

    Sony always rocks :D

  • Mac

    R.I.P Pac

  • Shehab Skull

And the widget also looks awesome

  • ash_k29

The new design is amazing! Loved the Sony touch on the material design… Can’t wait for Sony’s Lollipop to come up….

  • parental92

Stop giving vague direction, that xperia should have a “classy ui” what us a classy ui? And how Sony defines it? What kind of ui is not boring to you? If Sony didn’t change the design of the ui more people will be disappointed.

Sony has its own designer, and they can’t make an ui tailored specifically for you when you don’t even know what you want. Is just like buying a car and the sales person ask “what color of the interior would you like sir?” and you answer ” I would like an extravagant color”. Personally I think material overhaul is a good thing, the xperia launcher hast changed much since timescape days

  • Utsav Shah

I love the Track ID app UI and now these is even better!
Hope Sony does this great job to the overall OS UI as well!

  • tdl

    pink is awful.
i lost my last hope that it will be changed.

It looks very nice! Thank you SONY for not killing material design language. HTC and LG should learn from SONY how to make great design without ruining original design language.

  • Kentgaga

actually Sony’s just following the “flat style” design, not Material Design

  • F

    OH SHUT THE FUCK UP
    SONY UI IS NOT CLASSY
    SONY UI IS FUGLY

  • huss…. sleep now child, everything will be alright by tommorow

  • Venom

Why do sony system apps such as Album, Walkman, TrackID, Movie, PlayStation have circle Icon but others like Google Maps, YouTube, Evernote, Angrybirds and etc didn’t. Can sony change them to circle too?

  • RealityCheck2014

I HATE the look of this Material Design really :-/ It’s making my phone look like a Kids phone :D Oh well what can you do.

  • Frost

Aero UI is very popular so you really don’t know transparent glass effect? Really? Because I agree with him too that something like transparent glass is much more classy than the boring material design

  • Ediz I

?t’s possible that Sony can.change them to circle, Sony has to modify the launcher to apply the circle theme like on MiUI launcher, on MiUI it everything square take a look in YouTube, I would also like to see that

  • Lollipop

Would this give us an idea of the Xperia Lolipop UI design language?

  • F

    I.AM.FUGLY!

  • parental92

At the and of the day design is a matter of taste. I like material, it’s clean and colorful.

My point there is no exact definition of the word vesper use. Each designer can interpret the word “classy” and “futuristic” in many Form including material design. As seen in the dish above Sony did not blatantly copy the design they have their own twist just like everybody else in the game. I’m NOT saying that current Sony ui is very bad and unusable. And from design side transparency need more processing power. But it desperately need an overhaul to match Google apps and store.

Other advantages the closer Sony to material, it will be easier for them to muster an update. Win win look Motorola, the moto x got lollipop faster than nexus device.

  • Hasan Aleadani

    What is your xperia theme??

  • Hasan Aleadani

its Material design merged with some original design ideas. you could see the colors for example

  • Shehab Skull

palAtial theme it is free on market :)

  • Timel

Of course Sony UI is fugly
Sony just have no brain and can’t think any diffrent and creatively that’s why no one but their products… not just suck but still so boring

    let me RIP Sony early

Unbelievable that today the company like Samsung is more innovative that sony so shame!

  • Septian Yudha

With all those gradients, you call that material ??
You must be joking SONY !! XD

  • Niels d. G.

We’ll all get bored of this material design rather quickly since EVERY app is going to be looking the same. It’s like if in music you would only still listen to one and the same band, every day, every hour… It would get boring pretty quickly.

  • adneon0

Am i the only one who got strange feeling after looking at screenshots ? Not that cool as i expected :(

  • adneon0

More interested to see what they do with the soft buttons.

  • adneon0

Ohhh.. at first that looked ugly but then i installed it and voila *surprised*
    Great job Sony .!
Only thing which looks sometimes ugly is when there’s no album art for a song,a dull background image is displayed with TrackId icons with bad color :(

  • Hasan Aleadani

    THANKS. It’s really great

  • Mohammed Khired

material design is too boring ? really ?
