“Close all” mod for Recent Apps in Xperia Lollipop

by XB on 21st March 2015

in Tips & Tricks, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z3 series

Close All LollipopOne of the KitKat features missed by some in the Sony Xperia Android 5.0.2 Lollipop build is the “Close all” button when accessing recent apps. Well XDA-developer niaboc79 has come up with a mod that produces a floating material button when accessing recent apps, allowing you to clear all with ease. The mod currently works on the Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact and Z2 providing you have root. For the download and full instructions hit the source link below.

Close All Lollipop

Via XDA.

  • JEp

Wow! This is amazing… if only I got my Lollipop update.
    Lollipop anyone?

  • serendipity1002

this should have been included by default.. If im not mistaken, there’s one version of stock kitkat rom that has it out of the box?

  • Kitkat feature? I don’t have this in my Z1c. I’ve seen it on M2.

  • techielover

wish software delivery could be like selling pancakes!!

  • RK18

Is it even possible to root the Xperia Lollipop ROM yet? Or do you need to flash a pre-rooted one or something?

  • Tim Rox Westerholm

    I don’t wanna root my Z3 :-(

  • Paul Lam

Let’s wait for Android 5.1 for Sony to make it the way it used to be.

Not a fan of using third party mods.

  • DBS

The more I see of what Sony did on Lollipop, the more I’m certain I’ll never update my Z3Compact.

And I’m now seriously considering not buying another Xperia because Sony ruined the one thing that made me choose them over others: their UI.

  • Ravi _111

    Anyone update lollipop in india?

  • zeoxzy

My understanding is that you root the phone, not the operating system

  • Marcos De La Fuente Sánchez

You can’t miss what you never had (Z1 owner)

  • Nino

Can anyone send me a link with root tutorial or something o_O?

  • Fadi Obaya

Allt blir bättre med root. :)

  • Mulu Kaso

I fully support this feedback! thats my opinion too atm.

  • Spontex

J’espère que Sony mettra rapidement officiellement le “fermer tout” dans Lollipop ! Tant que ça n’arrive pas je ne mettrai pas à jour mon Z3C. Ah oui il faut que je traduise en anglais, euh.. I hope than Sony will fastly incloud “Close All” into lollipop, I let my Z3C on kitkat for now.

  • Andreescu Daniel

Z2 owner here, i realky like the update and don’t miss the close all but it was good to have, the phone has a fresh look now and i think they did a good job

  • parental92

    then don´t :P

sony wont change anything if you dont update anyway, go cry in silence while im enjoying ART runtime

  • Fadi Obaya

    towelroot

  • parental92

    google xda

  • Ibrahem Salah

You didn’t test it by your self
i updated my z2 and it’s on battery for 20 hours “19 hours standby and 1 hour using it on WiFi” my battery still 89%
Fastest Android version i have ever used on my Xperia z2
    Smooth and beautiful
All functions working 100% like tap to wake
And and and you really missed a lot :)

  • Nino

    o rly? I didn’t know…. I can’t find it on Xda.

  • Ibrahem Salah

There is a App add this feature for you
    without root
i think it’s called close all app for xperia z1

  • Ritwij

    It’s not out yet

  • Nino

    It’s not supported I think

  • raju

    Don’t need close all

  • raju

    Plz share lollipop

  • raju

Mee too have z1 compact from India, I don’t have close all option. Because z1 compact never hangs,&slow. Work perfectly that’s y we don’t need close all

  • Thanks

  • George.B

Hi.What version of Lollipop did you put on Z2?
I have install the Baltic Version , and the phone dosn’t move faster or smoother.
I have a little , just a little lag when i open the dialer or gallery. My phone worked better with Kitkat, and i am thinking to move back to that.

  • Haha! True. Also Google says we don’t shouldn’t close apps all the time because it consumes resources when you start it again and again. Hits battery as well. I just close intensive applications like games when I’m done playing.

  • Snorky112

    mdr

  • Snorky112

nope towelroot is for unlocked BL I think. but it must be on XDA somewhere

  • Snorky112

    which phone do you have?

  • Devoul
  • Snorky112

    I think

  • The lag might be because of various reasons. You might have too many photos or too many contacts.

  • Devoul
  • Nino

    I’m on Z2 5.0.2 Generic Baltic.

  • DBS

And I won’t. And if Sony doesn’t change, my next phone won’t be Sony. Simple.
Guess who loses? Hint: it’s not me.

But enjoy your ART runtime that doesn’t really offer you any different experience while you’re also stuck with a horrible U, diminished controls on the power button, a nightmare on multitasking, a worst notification centre, etc etc
Whatever rocks your boat, mate ;)

  • DBS

??? Your comment makes no sense. You do realise the Z3Compact has ALL of the things you mentioned on KitKat already, right?
More, it has all of that and a far better UI.

  • I think you’re really complaining about Lollipop because the notification center, the multitasking is same as stock Lollipop.

  • George.B

It is truth , i have a lot of contacts and pictures for them , but i experiencing the same things on most of the apps.Gallery(only 20 pictures) when i open chrome , gmail and so one.In kitkat , my phone was flying, now it is not. It is true , i like material design , i feel that the battery last a bit longer , much more free ram , better wi-fi signal. But i don’t understand why it is so laggy in daily use apps.

  • DBS

I don’t like Lollipop on any phone. But some OEMs like HTC took it and changed things that were bad like the multitasking screscreen. I hoped Sony would do the same but they didn’t.
They took 5 months to release an update that is practically stock Android LoLollipop. For that I’d but a Nexus or a Motorola.

I don’t like the Material Design all in white and colours, I hate the multitasking screen, and I hate the new notification tray. I also don’t like that Sony locked the designs in a way that it can’t even be changed with Xperia Themes.

Therefore the only good thing about the Lollipop update from Sony is the move to SD card. But that alone isn’t worth it. It’s rather root my phone to get that back than to put up with Lollipop’s horrible design. ;)

  • parental92

well at least youre not one of those pesky RAW supporter group, and that is a good thing.

i mean, what do you expect? sony change the whole UI for you?

  • George.B

I found the problem, i am used to close all apps, after i use them. When they stay opened in recent app tab , the phone works very well.

  • DBS

I have RAW on my Nokia’s I don’t need it on the Z3Compact specially when it lacks OIS lol

I expected Sony to stay true to their own UI with blacks and greys and metals instead of going with the whites and colours of stock Android. And for them to understand the new multitasking is a mess and correct it. They did nothing of the sort.

Since they’ve ruined their own UI, I now have no reason to buy a Sony again over the other offerings

  • Apollo89

Only stupid people want a ‘close all’ button. People who don’t understand that Android automatically manages its RAM, that it automatically closes apps when other apps need memory and that it consumes more time and energy (battery) to close and reopen apps, than to keep them cached in RAM.

  • Reza

    LOLOLOL…

  • ash

No there is no reason closing all apps slows down your phone and takes time next time you launch them

  • ash

    Now you know

  • omar

    Please what about the camera???

  • Timel

yes! Sony lollipop UI is fucking ugly and mess for example the recent apps screen which looks so mess, small app bar is fucking annoying

  • Dion

Send me your phone if you dont want it pm me for my adress

  • Timel

Sony gotta remove that annoying google search bar and the ugly small app bar from the recent app screen…. This new Sony UI shows how much artless and tasteless Sony is …Sony UI is fucking annoying, kidish and looks so mess, so disappointed.

Hope Sony will move/hide the small app bar from the bottom to the right, let users swipe it out from the right edge when they wanna use it.

  • jep

i think everyone here know what you tried to mention.it is just they or rather we(include me) already get used to it.if u dont like doesnt mean everybody else dont like too.you are not the only one in the world.think with your brain not with your knee cap.by the way people who call other people stupid actually more stupid

  • Ibrahem Salah

Running apps use your resources as they keep apps’ activities in memory running,
    also drain your battery

  • parental92

Yep I like Sony xperia line, so? At least I don’t go to other phone forum just to seek attention :) enjoy your stay

  • Sadman Khan

Z3C lollipop is near perfect, thank you. Haven’t come across any issue so far. Faster and smoother than KK.

  • parental92

Hmm true that, I do like the back and grey thing that’s going on kitkat. But it does feel sprayed or disjointed with the main Google apps like for example the default browser which is chrome.

Now its all like one coherent phone with the same tone on the design don’t you think? I’m actually okay with the new multitasking, yes there is a need to fix here and there my we can’t have it all can we?

If you decide to switch to other phone, the I bid you very well. But nowadays almost lol manufacturer embrace material design . . Just a curious question, which brand will switch to?

  • Timel

    Yes I Do

Beautiful pure android phone without any shitty and ugly softwares from Sony which very useless Yessssss dea l!

I mean Sony is just a ineffective electronics company Sony is only great about hardware company abut very suck about software Sony don’t have idea to make great softwares but I gotta admit that Sony’s design is always great.

  • Damon Adrian

That’s for app processes not for a apps running

  • Sadman Khan

Nightmare on multitasking? That many open and yet no lag or slowdown. You sure you using the right phone? UI looks are subjective. It looks great to me. And the notif panel is DEFINITELY better. You high mate?

  • Sadman Khan

    Same as before but faster

  • Andreescu Daniel

camera is faster now and i think it takes better pictures

  • Tanmay Singh Rajput

guuuy where lollipop in sony z1

  • George

SONY EXPLAIN PLEASE WHERE THE FUCK IS UPDATE FOR OUR XPERIA Z2 AND Z3?only released for baltic regions why why

  • Well you must be a general software engineer then, not an android one.

Android doesn’t manage processes like Windows.Apps that are minimized are “paused” in background and take up very less resources. When you reopen the app, it is “”resumed”. Exceptions are apps that run in background.

This is why you must not use task killers or RAM cleaners. Free RAM is RAM wasted. It might as well be used to cache apps. Restarting an app will be from storage taking up more resources and time.

  • 1998 ?????

    Wait a one week

  • Doubleyoupee

What. I never had close all in kitkat.

  • Reen

Still no rollout in Germany :(

  • Nino

    I’m on Z2 5.0.2 Generic Baltic.

  • Sweggity

Dialer and album doesn’t lag for me, u better reinstall

  • Fucking Duck

    Fuck you motherfucker.

  • Timel

Samsung’s recent app screen looks much better than Sony’s
Sony’s recent app screen is the worst

    http://cdn3.pcadvisor.co.uk/cmsdata/reviews/3600127/Samsung_Galaxy_S6_Edge_review_11.JPG

  • Jecht_Sin

Then you get apps like Sony tv remote that in kitkat do not show in the recent apps list and if you open them they go to the last application they opened (like IMDB or Chrome). At least closing all resets all of them. And that is the only option to save many clicks.

  • Jecht_Sin

Annoying and kidish. I see a projection in here. lol

  • Timel

    WTF

Why you gotta be so rude?

    Again for you man!

I think Sony is just a ineffective electronics company, Sony’s only great about hardware but Sony is so very suck about software, Sony have no idea to make great softwares for its hardwares but when talking about hardware especially Sony’s design, I gotta admit… is always great.

Good software from Google and beautiful hardware from Sony, The beautiful android phone, no more shitty and ugly softwares from Sony

    Xperia Nexus Yessssss deal !

  • roeshak

To me it just feels like the software they’ve released so far isn’t completed yet. Some features missing. I’m sure once we see general availability, the close all option will be back.
Maybe calling it a beta build was harsh. It’s rather stable for that. More like a release candidate with a few bits still to be impregnated!

  • YuuriAyano

They are not running per se. Rather, they are onPause. The app is in memory but it is not running. It doesn’t consume a lot of resources.

  • DBS

Yes. That’s a nightmare of a design. If you have more than 3 cards you have to start scrolling through endless cards. It’s simply horrible. Made, of course, worse by the absence of the “close all” feature.

And no, the new notification panel, with that greenish grey vomit colour is NOT best. It’s ugly and cluttered.

I guess you’re the one who must be high? ;)

  • DBS

I don’t much care about that “cohesive” experience. Cohesion is important in the OS, not in OS and apps. When you have apps looking like the OS, it just ends up cutting creativity away.
Having come from Windows Phone, I’m sick of having everything looking the same. And I’m sure people on Android will too after a while.

As for your last question, my Z3C is 6 months old so I don’t see myself replacing it at least until it makes 1 year. And since that means I won’t be replacing it until near 2016, I’ll probably hold on a few more months until Nokia can return to the phone market.
That’s my primary OEM of choice. Nokia.

Sony was the second (hence I moved to Sony the moment Nokia left the market).

If one doesn’t return and the other keeps this ruined UI, I’ll then consider other brands.

LG is on the top of the list of possible OEMs as I quite like their TVs and monitors. I am, however, open to Asus, Motorola, HTC and even Samsung with the S6Edge (though it’s a last resource as if Samsung has to be it, I’ll be wavering away the warranty to get rid of TouchWiz). It will very much depend on these OEMs offerings. I don’t like big phones but I only buy flagships. So only then will I see what’s on the market and choose.

(Note: I don’t use Google apps apart from Google to be honest. I kept my services on Microsoft as I like them better).

  • DBS

    My phone runs KitKat.
    It will keep running KitKat.
As such…sorry, no phone for you ;)

  • SilentGod

Always remember brah… what you think it is, might be it isn’t

  • Quark Gluon

When you send a running app to the background, it’s actually running at 4 fps. And even if you don’t kill any app, Android will do that for you automatically and unexpectedly.

So I think the usefulness of “close all” button depends on how user use the phone. I usually clear “recent apps” before I do heavy multitasking so I have enough room to work.

  • Ibrahem Salah

    You didn’t understand me,
i meant apps that you wont use at least for 3-4 hours like video player or something closing it better than keeping it in background
    Android app has 2 parts
Activity: the layout that you interact with.
Class: the functionality that being execute each time you press on button.
paused apps disable the functionality unless it’s a background app ofcs but keeps the activity running which consume your ram and cpu and battery ofcs :)

  • Ibrahem Salah

Yup but they still consume brother
i didn’t say they are completely running i just said the activity and i wrote a comment says what is the activity read it

  • Ritwij

Hey, need some advice. I have Xperia Z2, but quite bored of the big phone. I want a smaller phone without compromising anything. Z3 Compact is the best deal for me because I don’t mind 2GB RAM, 720p screen and plastic sides.

Can you confirm if Z3 Compact has these software features:

    1. Tap to wake
    2. Smart call handling
    3. Glove mode
    4. Answering machine

Because my Z2 has them, so Z3 should have them. I’m not sure about Z3 Compact though because I still don’t understand Sony’s logic. For example: 2GB RAM vs 3GB RAM in Z3 Compact and Z3. Plastic frame vs metal frame.

Also, Xperia Tablet Z had tap to wake but Xperia Z didn’t, although both had same hardware and firmware.

So please suggest me if I should get the Z3 Compact or not.
    Thanks!

  • Timel

I really get your point, you don’t like Material Design but you are also want Sonyness …That’s hard you know because Sony in this era has less creative, Sony have no idea to make difference, Sony is losing its own unique and becomes just a follower

Sony UI now looks like the stock UI but uglier.

  • DBS

The Z3 Compact has exactly the same specs of the Z3. It’s just a smaller version. The only reason why the Z3 has 1 more GB or RAM is because of the 1080p screen (and the image processing that it requires due to that).

The “plastic” sides of the Z3C feel exactly the same as the “metal” ones on the Z3. Except they never heat up. They also look a lot better IMO.

    As for your questions:
1 – Yes. It was actually a condition sine qua non I wouldn’t have bought it. I’m way too used to double tap to wake from Nokia phones.
2 – I’m not sure what this is. I’m not a big caller. If you tell me exactly what you want to know, I may be able to help you. Though if the Z2 has it, chances are, the Z3 has it too.
    3 – Yes.
4 – I believe so too. Again, I haven’t used answering machines since my Nokia 3310…so…

I honestly recommend the Z3C to everyone. Even over the Z3 itself. The phone is THAT good.

  • DBS

Thing is, they already work perfectly on the Z3C with 4.4 KitKat. ;)

  • charbel aoun

    Flash the ftf file

  • parental92

Lg? Interesting, Yes they are good In making hardware just like Samsung. But the ui is really a nightmare. 3 ways to do multitasking and millions upon millions of options on the settings app, especially g3, it’s home launcher reloading like there is no tomorrow despite a sizable amount of ram(I was considering g3 as I bought my z3). @_@ its a bit counter productive don’t you think? I mean here you complain about the ui then the top EOM you chose knows less about design :P.

And nokia, they will use stock android with Nokia z launcher on top of it just like their n1 tablet. I guess there is no running away from material design mate . .

  • DBS

I don’t really mind tons of options, actually. I’m not in love with LG’s UI but then again, I’m not in love with any Android UI. My favourite is Sony’s pre-Lollipop and that’s ultimately what made me chose Sony over another brand. Now that the thing I liked is gone in future phones, it’s irrelevant.
The LG UI has a good thing though, and that’s the ability to add more software buttons instead of the typical 3.

Yes I’m aware it’s becoming hard to run away from Material Design. And let us be clear, I would be ok with Material UI IF Sony hadn’t locked up the Xperia Theme freedom. They’re not allowing, for example, to exchange the white backgrounds on things like settings on Lollipop. Something that I can (and did) on KitKat.

Actually, their Xperia Theme Creator doesn’t even support Lollipop.

If Sony takes away a beautiful design and replaces it with a horrible one AND doesn’t even give us the freedom we had before with customization, then I rather not put up with it at all and go for an OEM that has more changes to Material Design.

As for Nokia, I don’t expect their phones to come with stock + Z Launcher. I believe that the Z Launcher will end up being a part of Nokia’s future Android skin. At any rate though, even if Nokia does that stock+launcher combo, I rather bare lollipop on a Nokia device than anywhere else. I was with Nokia for 15 years, I didn’t like to have to leave Nokia phones, and so as soon as I can go back to one, I will. But that’s a reason of the heart more than a rational reason. And it only applies towards Nokia, no one else.

  • Lucis Hirai

I love the UI of Sailfish OS, it looks very classy and deserves Xperia flagship phones .

Actually This is not a Sony website and I dont think that Sony CEO will read this website because if sony really read this website and really listen their fans they will have to improve or fix their products But there’s nothing change So… You voice = zero/nothing/worthless here

    Sorry

We were waiting long time for Lollipop… And now? We have nothing better than Samsung’s, HTC’s and the other users. Shame Sony, shame. We bought expensive phones from you and we have got nothing special from you, any special functions etc. I think, it’s not the way where you are going Sony. You can’t care about your users Sony. I’m so confused.

  • raju

    Z1 compact is best

  • raju

    No mee to from India

  • [S]unjay

What don’t you like about the new UI?

  • [S]unjay

Sony’s recent apps is clear more functional.

  • DBS

I don’t like the colour pallet of white backgrounds and colourful headers instead of the old more sober blacks and greys and metals.
I don’t like the new multitasking view which is a mess to navigate. Not to mention the lack of the close all of course.
I hate the new notification tray because it’s cluttered and the colour is atrocious (why couldn’t they keep the black and white at least? Argh).

And I’m not fond of the new navigation icons either.

But worst of all, I hate that Sony closed all of that to customization. Xperia Themes became a hell of a lot less useful with Lollipop as you can barely change a thing.

  • Ibrahem Salah

Maybe but i felt like they act better on Lollipop

  • parental92

Haha u loathe LG ui :P and I don’t think that Nokia will be launching high end phone in 2 years either. But hey everybody has I their own preference. Especially design, which is a subjective matters. It’s nice to have a civilised discussion instead off booing each other. :)

  • Eduardo Otero

    You’re totally right…
That was why I choose Sony and now it is gone…

  • calu lu fat-frumos

A restart button would be nice too.

  • George

    yep you are right

  • Sweggity

it is fine for me… it is the same version for me. Better do a clean install

  • jep

dont mind the detail.i am not keyboard warrior.just saying too

  • Stanley Lu

Is it already possible to have root on Android 5.0 without unlocking bootloader already?

  • Ritwij

Yes, I chose Z2 over Z3. For 2, go to Settings > Personalization > Motion. If it’s there, then good.

It’s only been 3 months with my Z2 and I’m already tired of the big size. The metal sides don’t heat up, but the phone is heavy. I had Xperia Z before this and it was so much lighter with glass fibre sides, which also looked cool. So plastic sides don’t really bother me.

This might sound a little girly, but I’m confused between white and black color. My Z and Z2 are black only because their white versions had black front, which I dislike. But Z3 Compact has white front. I’ve never used white and black Z3 Compact side by side! So, please shed some light on this too.

    Thanks again!

  • Ritwij

    Umm as you like it.

  • Timel

LoL I’m so pity you, Brainless fanboys do nothink except lick Sony balls

So Stop trying to defend every Sony’s mistakes, that makes you look so stupid

  • RealityCheck2015

I was hoping this feature was coming with Lollipop :( My Z1 doesn’t have it & it’s f-in annoying! :-/ Oh well maybe in a future update please??? + Just looking forward to the move App’s to Memory Card really :P (i bet 99% of App’s can’t be moved tho…hmm, i must have faith) :D

  • Android Masterrace!

Make sure you do a full reset after upgrading. My Z3 was really slow and buggy, and the battery life was bad at first, but after doing a full reset is amazing. It’s so much better now.

  • Android Masterrace!

Yep clean install all the way. I messed up and just did a dirty flash and my Z3 was quite slow and the battery life was bad. Did a full reset and now it’s perfect!

  • Android Masterrace!

And what company do you think is going to stay on Kit Kat for you? Almost every manufacturer is on lollipop already, so you are going to have a very hard time trying to avoid lollipop’s UI.

  • Android Masterrace!

Wow you’re a sook. You’re doing nothing but sooking like a little baby. Just shut up and enjoy your kit kat, and meanwhile we will all enjoy lollipop. Grow up and put up with it.

  • Android Masterrace!

Yeah and meanwhile the Nexus and Motorola still have a terrible memory leak that hasn’t been fixed for 5 Months. You’re never going to be happy with anything, because you care too much about every little aspect so every phone is going to have some drawbacks you need to just grow up and realise it’s just a phone. Stay in Kit Kat, and shut up.

  • Tochi Nwodu

Guy fuck off and use your kitkat and if you are tired of sony then, bounce

  • Snorky112

the thing is that you don’t even need to close the apps because android can manage the memory automatically

  • Fragohol1C

Only for rooted devices :( Hotfix this pls!

  • DBS

Your comment is as useful and good as a flie-infested turd. Congratulations.

  • DBS

What? Problems with the oh so great Lollipop? Nah. Impossible.
Oh by the way…Google Only fixed that problem on 5.1. Your Sony Lollipop is NOT based on that but on 5.0.2. So enjoy your memory leak on Lollipop too.

Last time I looked it’s my moneyas a consumer keeping these companies working. So I’ve all the right in the World to criticise whatever the hell I want. ‘ cause if I’m not happy with their offerings I won’t buy their products. You know what happens when people don’t buy products to the companie, right? No? Then ask Kodak.

  • DBS

Yet another comment by you, the untermensch in Android’s “masterrace”.

  • DBS

Simple, I’ll choose the OEM that alters Lollicrap the most. Easy and simple.

  • DBS

    I didn’t say I loath LG’s UI. I said I prefer Sony’s pre-Lollipop UI. Different things ;)

And you’re right, Nokia won’t be launching phones in 2 years. They’ll be doing it next year already ;P

  • Sadman Khan

Yet to see another person who’d say that the older notification bar was better :P

  • Guest

Leaving them on eats up your memory and processing power. I’d rather the other way around.

By that logic, Sony has been moving backwards since the Z1 compact?

Yes, but a lot of people want a clean background like having a clean desktop on a PC.

  • RK18

Okay, my bad. But I think you know what I meant. Is it possible to root it with lollipop already installed, without unlocking the bootloader? The guides google provides are about KitKat.

  • Geese Howard

It feels so good that most of Timel’s comments have been deleted by the mod’s, so refreshing! Anyways, this is a nice app!

  • Geese Howard

Dude, come on… not all UI’s out there are pretty; and besides, it’s all about preferences. If you don’t like the UI, root the phone and change it with a custom UI. The Z3C is a good phone, so complaining simply about the UI doesn’t justify for the phone man.

  • zeoxzy

Unfortunately i’m not too sure. sorry

I’m just saying that Sony HAD a great UI until Lollipop. And that they ruined everything on Lollipop. I’m just saying that Sony has destroyed one by one all the reasons that made me opt for them over another OEM:

1st – They utterly disappoint with the camera. The Z3C has a nice camera, but it’s not at all the best camera on an Android phone. Why? Because Sony made no improvements to the software since the Z1. So the camera is no longer a plus of the Xperia series as the likes of Samsung have picked up the same Sony hardware but created better software.

2nd – They put out a Lollipop update that basically denies its previous design language. The sober, more black, white and metal grey UI is replaced by Google’s childish white and colourful design. Google’s Lollipop design has NOTHING to do with Sony’s premium philosophy.

3rd – Along with the Lollipop disaster UI, they basically kill the functionality of the Xperia Themes by locking everything down. I would be fine with Sony’s Lollipop design if they had kept the Xperia Themes freedom opened. But as of Lollipop, you can’t, for example, change the white backgrounds for black, for example. Something I could (and did) on 4.4.

Sony was about premium, about stylish sober designs, about customization and great cameras.
Well, all of that is gone.

And rooting isn’t a solution. If I wanted to root a phone a lose the warranty, I would have bought any Android phone. I chose Sony because they had the best UI and UX on Android phones. I don’t mind paying more when the product offers quality.
Unfortunately, moving forward, the verb is “past”. HAD. As their future phones will likely come with this crap version of Lollipop, I will rather get another flagship that’s cheaper. Rooting for rooting, I’d rather not paying much for a device if the 2 years legal warranty will have to be waved away for me to be able to fix the design of the software.

    Hmmmmm

  • raju

    What. Logic?

  • ash

  • Rajang

The Close all Button being implemented in later flagships after Z1 despite”we don’t need close all”

  • Snorky112

not totally good but it’s… well… enough, and stil better than other brands

  • sony sucks

actually when i chose my z2 i was the same way that “sony is still better” than samsung, lg, htc… but i was wrong, and i think that it is wrong enough already that we have the chose this way, kinda like which is the least worst mentality…

  • Snorky112

you werent wrong, you are wrong now, all sony smartphones are rootable without unlocked bootloader, and this is priceless

  • timenow
