Leakster extraordinaire Evan Blass (@evleaks) has started the New Year with a bang, giving us a first official look of three upcoming Sony smartphones – the Xperia XA2 Ultra and Xperia XA2 mid-rangers, as well as the entry-level Xperia L2.
The design used is very similar to last year’s Xperia XA1 models, with very thin side bezels, but larger bezels on the top and bottoms of the device. There will no doubt be some that complain about bezels, but we always thought the XA1 series looked pretty great for a mid-range offering.

When compared to last year’s models, the images confirm that Sony has added a fingerprint sensor to all models this time round. However, as seen in recent leaks, Sony will mount the fingerprint sensor on the rear of the handset for the first time. It will be interesting to see whether Sony adopts a similar fingerprint sensor placement for its flagship devices this year.
The pictures confirm that the Xperia XA2 Ultra will feature dual front-facing (selfie) cameras, along with a front-facing LED flash. The Xperia XA2 only features one front-facing camera, but it looks like a large sensor. Both devices will have dedicated camera buttons and launch with Android Oreo.
From what we have seen in previous leaks, the Xperia XA2 Ultra (H42XX) is expected to have a 6-inch 1080p display, powered by a Snapdragon 630 chipset with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. It may feature dual 15MP selfie cameras, and a 23MP rear camera. The Xperia XA2 (H41XX) is expected to have a 5-inch (or 5.2-inch) 1080p display, with a Snapdragon 630 chipset, 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, Bluetooth 5.0, a 23MP rear camera and 8MP selfie camera.
The Xperia L2 (H43XX) has a similar design, but appears to be made of a different material compared to the Xperia XZ2 Ultra and XA2, which wouldn’t surprise given the likely lower price point. The Xperia L2 is likely to launch with Android Nougat and is rumoured to feature either a 5.2-inch (or 5.5-inch) 720p display.
These press pictures also highlight that Sony is using the same loops wallpaper theme it used last year, albeit with a space galaxy twist.
