Sony Mobile has begun the Android 9 Pie rollout for the Xperia XZ Premium, Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ1 Compact today. As of writing, the update has only seen a limited release in terms of regions and model variants, but it will widen in the coming days.

The update moves the build number to 47.2.A.0.306, and arrives with the 1 October 2018 Android security patch. Android Pie was due to be released in late October, so it’s a little late due to bug quashing. This is why we suspect Sony didn’t push the update with the latest November security patches.

The new update is expected to bring Sony’s new camera interface, Full HD 960fps slow-motion video support and HDR video image enhancement (X-Reality with HDR converter). Selfie camera display flash was also rumoured to be supported, but we’ll need to wait to download the update ourselves to find out. Also, just in case you are looking for it, Sony has not adopted Android Pie gesture navigation unfortunately. Hopefully, this will come in a later release.

If you’ve updated your handset, please share your screenshots and impressions below.

Thanks Lazaros, Mrninko and Sevdar!
