Sony “Xperia XA1 Plus” breaks cover with official pics

by XB on 30th August 2017

in Rumours, Xperia XA series

A new phone supposedly called the “Sony Xperia XA1 Plus” has been outed, and is expected to launch alongside the Xperia XZ1 and XZ1 Compact flagships tomorrow. The Xperia XA1 Plus will have a 5.5-inch FHD display and sits between the 5-inch Xperia XA1 and 6-inch Xperia XA1 Ultra.

The Xperia XA1 Plus will differ from the other handsets in the XA1 range by offering a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and sport no front-facing flash to go alongside its 8MP selfie camera. Other specs include a MediaTek MT6757 Helio P20 chipset, 4GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, 23MP rear camera, USB Type-C and a battery capacity of 3430mAh. As can be seen in the pictures below, the Xperia XA1 Plus will come in four colours including Gold, Blue, Pink and Black.

What is apparent to see is that this device is very different to the Xperia model that leaked previously with a rear mounted fingerprint sensor. At this stage it is unclear, whether that model was a prototype, or whether it could be revealed at some point later. In the meantime, we’ll bring you all of the latest developments from Sony’s IFA 2017 press conference tomorrow.

Thanks KF and LaOlTomsk!

The problem with this is the chipset. But at least it has a fps. We were expecting a successor to the X with a SD. So does this mean Sony will only use SD on flagships? :/

  • Moisés

Sony sold more XZ and X Performance than X and X Compact. Super midranges are done.
Samsung may not bring A9 this year.

These midranges with 650, 652, 653 and upcoming 660 always cost same or bit more of last year flagships.

    M5 x Z3
    X x Z5
    A9 x S6 Edge+
    LG G5 SE x G4

  • Moisés

I do not like this pink… Gold Rose of X Perf is much nicer.
Gold is not ugly but not nice… Lime Gold is better
    Black and Blue are awesome..

  • That speaks placement should be implemented on the XZ line…

  • Alvin

I thought it has an edge-to-edge display, seeing that fingerprint sensor is located at the back

  • Subham Dey

    Still mediatek p20..
So there is no Xperia model with SD660 that was rumored past??

  • Subham Dey

Sony can easily make a mid range with SD660.XA1 series is average at best!
In my country there is no Xperia x performance, also Xperia x officially discounted..
    So what’s the point?
A mid range Xperia with SD660 , solid camera with great spes will generate some good sales!!

  • Moisés

    I like too…

  • Moisés

X did not have good sales , that is why it is over.
    What I mean is…

    – X and Z5 for same price. Most ppl would choose Z5.
    – M5 same price of Z3 and Z4. Why would someone choose M5 over the other two?

If Sony brought the X1 it would cost at least the same of XZ, a bit cheaper than XZs. The 660 is weaker than 820. It would be a XZs with weaker cpu.

This XA1+ is for those that like big screen and dont need flagships. It is a rival for A7 2017 and Z2 Play.

  • BGDoesGaming

these names and too many new device will kill sony.

  • Manu

I’d like a high-end phone with a big 6″ screen? Why not something like this, Sony? :(

    I don’t think they need another 5,5″-mid-class-phone…

  • kabiluddin

Well, I’m glad that Sony didn’t bring that ugly looking back FPS. That thing was hideous.

This phone is looking good with big battery. Job well done on the battery department.
This phone is also shaping upto be much better than Samsuck’s Galaxy J7 Pro.
I may buy this phone for my mother.

  • aseuss

That, and no carrier support, limited retail, overpricing, and not promotions/advertising.

  • aseuss

Even if it happens to be decent, it’s designed to fail: No carrier support, limited retail availability, overpricing, and no promotions/advertising. That’s the Sony way. Not just for phones, but for tablets, TVs, watches, smart bands, action cams.

  • hansip

Same chipset with xa1 ultra but bigger battery? Not sure how this won’t eat xa1 ultra market.. :-/

  • Kurisu Makise

I think it maybe Xperia XZ1 Uitra. As you can see, that smartphone doesn’t have circle Power button. It just looks like have fingerprint scanner. But, XA series doesn’t have fingerprint scanner. On-y XZ Series have fingerprint scanner on power button.

  • Itsmuan Zo

Wow! This is very sony, a truly great sight; except for the P20 chipset!

  • Emil Oskarsson

So wait, they can fit a battery that large in a mid ranger as big as xz premium?? But only 3230 mAh in xz premium? Wtf seriously :( The biggest battery should be in the high end flagship phones not the mid rangers…

  • Emil Oskarsson

Xperia x and x compact series are dead, we won’t se a successor no matter what Techradar believes xD

  • KarFar

I knew they would pollute it with mediacrap

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

IKR I was thinking the same. XD Anyways I am happy with XZP battery. I think I am getting better results than my Z2/3 times. But bigger battery was more than welcome.
Been using Lifelog app and it uses gps constantly when I am travelling. Felt like it’s a battery hog so I stopped using. Cause I read that pedometer isn’t that accurate either.

  • azzido

    Who will buy this flop?

  • Francis Troy Fabrigas

Why you appear only when Sony releases new phones?

A hater who comes out of shell to troll over the internet?

  • Julius

Wow, I can’t even tell what the differences are between all those same-looking devices. What are they doing? :(

  • Stergios Papoutsoglou

Well as a heavy user I am not very satisfied with its battery but coming from a z5 premium I can say that it is an upgrade

  • Spontex

    You think wrong.

  • John Jones

I imagine the price of the Xperia XA1 Ultra will drop by at least 25% now. Gotta be a decent upgrade from my Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, right?

  • What about only 2700 in the flagship XZ1?

  • Emil Oskarsson

Just ignore xz1 and just buy xz1 compact or xz premium, a battery that small is awful in a phone! I had x performance before and 2700 mAh didn’t worked out for me

  • azzido

No, I was saying great for xz premium and bought it (preordered). If only I knew it suffers from abnormal distortion issue…

  • hansip

yes but the 835+UFS can save 1W of power on average. so the 200mah less battery shouldn’t make more impact compared to original XZ. but the Compact will definitely best it though.

  • Nick Paschalidis

The compact is way thicker which certainly helps for the battery capacity. The XZ Premium has great heatpipe cooling and I doubt that these phones have the same.Maybe a teardown would help answer our questions.

  • Jadranko Pavlotić

This is getting better and better
