Sony teases “something extraordinary is coming” just in time for MWC

by XB on 21st February 2014

in Rumours, Xperia Z2

ThumbSony is getting ready for a new Xperia reveal at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, which kicks off next week. It has been sending out emails to customers letting them know that “something extraordinary is coming”. Sony obviously likes the word “extraordinary” as they used it in their teasers for the Xperia Z and Xperia Z1 last year.

Dance features heavily in the teasers which could be suggesting motion gestures, like what we have already seen in our sneak peek of Sirius. We expect to see the Sony D6503 Sirius and Xperia Z2 Tablet (SGP521 Castor) make an appearance at the press conference on 24 February, but we’ll keep you posted.

    Z2 Compact, I hope it will come… :)

  • Adrian969

Not that exciting with new models that runs on smae hardware as last generation of models.

  • redwan

Z2 and zl 2 will be coming

  • lovebmw

I bet that idea would be in 3rd quarter not now

  • sony

come on sony bring me the kitkat update….:p

  • anon

please! will xperia t2 ultra have LED notification light? thanks

  • Stephen

it says here that you are sony, so you bring it

  • vigneshprince

xperia z2 with RAW camera image

  • If the Z2 is just what the leaks have shown, then there’s no need for me and my Z1 to worry.

It does seem like a reasonably good upgrade from the Z (if you don’t mind practically burning the money you invested in the Z).

  • marcyff2

    Amen to that!

  • vigneshprince

yeah may be I’ll wait to get Xperia Z5 if it comes! cause after Z2 releases, its apps can be ported! so sony have to introduce something different so that i could upgrade my XZ!

  • Billy de Fretes

oh.. really.. last generation models? can you give 5 devices with new latest hardware?

  • Ghareeb Saeed

No, I don’t think so Sony! This time I ll wait for HTC!

  • Persian User

What about something flexible as the image suggests?
It was the first thing that came to my mind by seeing the image.

Really?how many time HTC failed with its flagships, and you’re still waiting for a proper phone from HTC!!!so wait

  • Micro

yes, especially when we found yesterday that Z1 actually have the support for stylus – this is the only thing I miss in this big monster

  • Persian User

And convince me to leave my Z.
Z1 couldn’t convince me to do so.

  • Micro

oh, and please Sony, don’t forget about the SBH80!

2k display,,4k video,,better cpu and etc,,even a small reason can cause change a phone,,but if we think we find that this upgrades are not necessary,,an hd and fullhd display is quite enough for a phone so what’s the point of 2k,same goes for all other parts, previousLy I had Xperia t and it was so strong and suely upgrade to z and z to z1 was unnecessary,,,because all thing that z1 deliver Xperia t also could deliver it,,

  • Adrian969

Lots of models with Snapdragon 800.

  • Timbo1

All the rumors say its still the same Snapdragon 800 CPU and the “4k” video capture can easily be ported to the Z1 since it is using the same processor(rumored)

  • Billy de Fretes

so if snapdragon 800 is the latest hardware you cannot say it’s last generation hardware since 805 not released yet

  • Mokhtar Mouhib

from what i see .. i think something in the camera .. maybe a new stabilization feature ? or and incredible low light shoots .. or they include a feature that make the phone dance ? maybe who knows hahaa

yeah will also w8 for Xperia Z5 or even 10 …..i’ll stick with my Xperia Z…
or Sony could start making “Xperia Z Ultimate Series” which will contain all the features of Xperias A to Z with S Master Audio Chip, the highest IP rating,
    1 Gigapixel(100 MP) etc etc.

  • roeshak

Something extraordinary indeed! Extraordinarily huge!!!!!!! That’s what’s coming your way courtesy of Sony corp lol!

Interesting news guys,,Samsung omitted galaxy s3 from getting android 4.4 kitkat,, go other sites and see how much people are frustrated and curse Samsung,,so see upgrading is a problem for all manufacturers, its goggle fault they should release one version each year,a stable and powerful one,,instead of all this crappy versions

  • Mac

At the earliest I guess. I mean hopefully cuz I want my z1 compact 2 be fresh a little bit more. xP

  • The Rock

I want to see the actual Z2 and see if the loudness (1st) will opt me to jump from my XZ to Z2. I saw the leaks reported by XBlog and the loudness does seem promising. 2 speakers too… but it will take more to convince me to buy the Z2. I’m feel the dark side calling me already though….

  • Fëanáro Nénmacil

HTC flagships have failed so many times. If the coming M8 fails again, the company might as well be losing its final stand in the high-end market. It’s also focusing more into mid-range phones right now too. You’re gonna have to wait quite long.

  • Amir

you can’t port: dual speakers, 5.2″ IPS display, slightly thinner bezel, thinner profile, gloves mode, no shatter film (rumored), newer s800, 3gb ram.

  • Amir

this may or may not convince you: dual speakers with sound boost, 5.2″ IPS display, slightly thinner bezel, thinner profile, gloves mode, no shatter film (rumored), newer s800, 3gb ram, bigger battery.

  • Timbo1

Still not worth an upgrade. Not even the Snapdragon 805 is worth an upgrade. 3gb of RAM on a Sony phone is overkill its not a Samsung with an over bloated UI on top of android so any benefits to that is negligable. Slightly bigger battery, again not a big deal I get around 24 hours of battery life with moderate use on the Z1. Dual speakers will still suck ass because of waterproofing, no anti shatter screen protector, again big whoop. The only real benefit might be the IPS display.

  • Amir

i don’t think it’s worth to upgrade a phone before 3 years have passed. at least 3 years. i upgrade my phone every 4-5 years. but i buy only flagships so it serve me well for a few years. my next phone is going to be sony’s Q4 flagship. i hope that from 2015 they stop with flagship every half a year. i think they proved themselves to be competitive. will be better for sony and for consumers.

  • Timbo1

I agree 100% there is no need for Sony to release a new flagship every 6 months that is ridiculous. 1 new flagship a year should be enough they are releasing flagships like HTC used to and that hurt HTC.

  • Amir

yeah, they will eventually stop with every half a year. no company who wants to be on top can continue like this. no major manufacturer release a flagship every half a year. sony tries to gain confidence by half a year but i predict that they will stop from 2015. this will be the best because they will be able to release a mature device with mature camera, etc. not half baked camera processing, etc. ask apple, samsung, lg, and htc…

Aha, before I went on Xperia blog (the first website I visit), I checked my emails and saw the Sony one, just registered and then came here and see this article :D

  • Amir

xperiablog is arguably the best site for xperia news imo. :)

Where do you sign up to receive sony news? i only get my playstation email…

  • phillip

in fact, other mobile companies are releasing two flagships in a year anyway, just in different forms. Samsung always release a Galaxy S series flagship in first half year then second half year release a Note series flagship.

  • Danny

    No bugs?

  • Amir

No, i meant flagship of one form. 2 different forms are not the same thing.

But is it enough to justify 700 dollars, and upgrade from your 700 dollar z1?

  • Amir

nobody talked about replacing Z1 with Z2. no, it’s not worth it if you have Z1.

Very interesting thing I just come across at – I could choose any number of items (from the list) at very heavy discount rates (up to 75% off online) – more we buy more discount – I never seen this before.

  • Alfie De Castro

I convince to change my Xperia Z to XZIV or XZV because of Screen, battery and CPU/GPU Upgrade
