Icon size settings from Sony’s new Xperia home launcher demoed

Xperia Z3+ Home Screen_2We recently reported on the new Sony Xperia home launcher that supports auto rotation and the ability to change icon settings. Whilst we could see auto rotation in action, the icon setting option was not live in that build. Well it looks like the Xperia Z3+ is running the latest home launcher, as this setting has been shown off by Btekt in the video below (skip to around the 4-minute mark).

It shows that there are two options (Large and Small) and that the actual difference between the two is rather subtle. However, for those that have always found the Lollipop icons too large, this new launcher should be a welcome relief.

Waiting for that to be ported :D

  • Mike Gonzalez

thank god, cuz i couldnt stand those icons for the visually impaired

  • shenoy

    How come Still Walkman??????

  • Yali AA

Because its RC and factory settings, and it hasnt been updated.

  • jag

Nice addition! I really hate those big icons because I got used to the Z Ultra’s tiling and icon sizes.

  • Tim Rox Westerholm

    Rc? :-)

  • Rammstone

I hope they roll out this update for the Xperia Z too. The option for auto rotation is there but not icon size. I would like to have the icons smaller because after I installed the Lollipop update it almost seems as if the resolution was turned down because the icons are too big

  • Farid Cooper

After a month or two you won’t notice the icon size no more but still it’s always good to have options

  • BruceLeeRoyJenkins

True, at first I was a little annoyed with the icon size increase going from my Z1 to Z3, but after a while it doesn’t matter.

  • jmaxim917

Who says Sony doesn’t listen to its customers?

  • WilliamTell13

Can’t wait. I updated my Z1s to Lollipop yesterday and I can’t stand the giant icons.

  • Wolf0491

Hmm I want an update to get location based wifi back…

  • Brian De Guzman

When I got my Z3, I once thought that the icons are too big too, after getting used to it, I don’t feel comfortable with smaller icons anymore. I guess we all have our preferences, good thing Sony gives us that option to choose between the 2.

    Release Candidate. As in Unreleased

  • Mac

Yeah I’m feeling yaa. My Z1C got a bit ugly, the icons made the screen looking smaller and that’s not good. But well, I guess u get used to it cuz now I don’t think about it. Wish I had the z3c screen on it though.

  • Farid Cooper

I wanted to upgrade my Xperia Z to the Z1 compact but felt the size was a little small. The Z3C is slightly bigger in foot print but the 4.6 inch is the sweet spot for me

  • That’s disappointing. I was hoping for small icons to actually mean that I can fit more icons on my home screens at once. :-(

  • Mac

Aight, I went from neo to Acro S to Z1C. The overall size of the phone is important for me, I don’t want a big phone. But the screen is a bit to smal. So yeah the z3 compact makes the solution for me. But since the Z3C have a plastic frame, it just feels less premium than Z1C. Waiting for a 4.6-4.7 Inch z4 compact or z5 compact.

Before Lollipop the icons on my SXZ was nice and in good size.
With Lollipop icons become more larger.
Now Sony demoes the fancy new feature to size the icons back to normal.

So, Sony artifically made the demand for this setting…

  • Vahid Sanati

icons in the image looks smaller than normal :|

  • phil

    looks lame

  • Robson Kanyama

True, because on my Xperia™ Z2 I now see them to be small cause am own used.

  • garry36

This is most welcome can I have it now please

Will the Z3+ support PS remote gaming?

Edit: I watched a video on Sony’s YouTube channel, showing the remote playing. But does anyone know how it works without the magnetic dock connector?

Useful for tablets (unless it defaults on Large)

  • Snorky112

the magnetic connector is only for charging, nothing to do with PS remote play

  • Kristo

Oh, I see. So how does the PS controller connect to the phone? Does it use NFC or BT or something?

  • Raj Singh

I have large icons on the Z Ultra. It was a firmware update.
I want the small icons back (or the option to choose between the two).

  • nick sweden

and u cant that? , U HAVE lollipop ?, i have kitkat , there i can change stock small or large , icons :) regards

  • Raj Singh

I have Lollipop. I called Sony Mobile. They said many people have raised this issue and they’re working on a fix.

  • JackOfAll

What is the “N” Icon on the top bar for? It looks like a sideways “Z”.

  • Gabriel Parobiec

The N at the top is for NFC which stands for near field comunication. This is a feature where you tap your phone onto tags like for example some bus stops have this feature where if you want find bus times you tap your phone on where you see the N sign.
